After High School, The Brothers Took Their Talents To The University of Missouri
Max joined Ben in the Tigers’ wrestling program, and their competitive spirit pushed each other to new heights. Max’s college career was nothing short of remarkable.
He qualified for the NCAA national meet all four years and earned All-American honors in his final three seasons.
The pinnacle of his career came in 2010, when Max won the NCAA national championship as a senior—an achievement that cemented his place among wrestling’s elite.
Ben, already a standout in his own right, had paved the way at Missouri, and the brothers’ combined efforts elevated the program’s reputation.

Together, they founded the Askren Wrestling Academy (AWA), with locations in Hartland, Mequon, Green Bay, Madison, and Franklin, Wisconsin.

In June 2025, The Askren Family Faced A Heartbreaking Challenge
On June 7, Max’s wife, Amy, shared a devastating update on social media: Max had been hospitalized with severe pneumonia caused by a staph infection.
His condition was critical, and doctors warned he might need a lung transplant.
The wrestling community and fans worldwide rallied around the Askrens, sending prayers and support.
By June 17, there was a glimmer of hope.
Amy reported that Max was showing signs of improvement, able to open his eyes and squeeze his hands.
While the road to recovery remains long, Max’s fighting spirit shone through years of wrestling.
