Mead high School girls basketball coach, George (JR) Sagner, was arrested in November after a tip revealed he had inappropriate relationships with players for years.

Once a respected coach, mentor and business owner in Colorado high school basketball, George “JR” Sagner is now a convicted felon.

He was found guilty on charges related to grooming and sexually abusing student-athletes under his care.

Coach Was Found Guilty On All Eight Charges Brought Against Him!

George “JR” Sagner was first arrested in November 2022 after a Safe2Tell tip led to a police investigation.

This led to a police investigation revealing that Sagner had inappropriate relationships with multiple student-athletes over several years.

He was charged with sexually abusing a child he was trusted to protect, and for encouraging harmful behavior in a minor.

Sagner, 30, had coached girls basketball at Mead since 2019 and previously worked at Dawson School.

Additionally, from 2013-2015, he worked as the assistant boys basketball coach at Longmont High School.

According to police reports, the abuse began when one student was an incoming senior in 2021.

She and another girl described being invited to his home, drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and experiencing inappropriate physical contact.

Sagner is no longer employed by the school district. In recent days, he has been found guilty on all eight charges including sexual assault on child by a jury.

His sentencing will be held on January 6, 2026.

After the verdict, one of the survivors named Kyra Varn recently shared a powerful message.

She said she can finally sleep better now that the man who hurt her and two others for years is in jail.

Further, she said the jury believed their stories and found him guilty on all charges, saying:

Tonight I will sleep better knowing that the man who groomed/abused me and 2 other victims for years, will sleep in a jail cell tonight with no opportunity to get out. The jury believed us and found him guilty on all charges. It’s our turn to rewrite the story of lies he has told this community about us for so many years.

His sentencing ensures he will remain in custody, with no opportunity for release at this time, as confirmed by the survivor’s statement.

In response, many people flooded the post with messages of support, pride, and admiration.

One of her well-wishers praised her courage, saying:

I’m so proud of your strength and determination. You suffered ridicule and harassment from his defense counsel and came out stronger!

Likewise another one said:

So so proud of your strength and resilience – especially after just having a baby. You go momma

All victims of abuse deserve to be heard, and their voices must be met with respect.

Those who commit such acts must be held fully accountable under the law.
