After signing a one-year, $4 million contract with the Jets in 2023, Hardman had limited involvement in the Jets’ offense.

He had played only 28 offensive snaps and had only one reception in five games.

He expressed his frustration with his role and lack of involvement while with the Jets in an interview with ESPN.

He made a comment saying,

“I’M PROBABLY THE BEST IN THE LEAGUE IN SPACE,” HE SAID. “MAYBE [THE COACHES] SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT.”

Back then, he pondered the reasons behind his underutilization in screenplays and gadget-style running plays.

In October 2023, Mecole Hardman Jr. made his return to Kansas City through a trade with the New York Jets.

The Chiefs traded a 2025 sixth-round draft pick to the Jets in exchange for Hardman and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

After learning about the Chiefs being one of the teams interested in the trade, Mecole was excited.

In the interview, he said,

“When I heard it was Kansas City, I was excited to get back here.”

On the other hand, The Chiefs’ wide receiver performance has been a challenge this season.

A rookie, Rashee Rice, a second-round draft pick, leads the team in catches, receptions, and yards at his position.

The Chiefs’ expectations for production from veteran wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore have also not been met as anticipated.
