The involvement of both his elder siblings in sports also contributed to Avery’s skills in more than one sport.

Their father, Mark Johnson, coached them since childhood, teaching them the game of football. Mark made efforts to expose Avery to every possible competitive situation.

At the age of 2, Avery memorized the uniform numbers of Anthony’s little-league baseball team. He even outpaced Anthony’s fifth-grade football team in 40-yard dashes.

K-State Is Excited After Avery’s One Start:

Barely had the mascot been wheeled off the field at Camping World Stadium when Avery Johnson led Kansas State to the end zone on the initial possession of the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

A true freshman, Johnson earned his big win by totaling 249 yards and scoring three touchdowns in a turnover-free performance that led to him being awarded the game MVP honors.

Taking over for portal resident Will Howard, Johnson made his much-anticipated first career start at quarterback.

In his debut as a starter, Johnson performed so well that it was challenging to pinpoint exactly what he did best.
