Marcus Dickey’s parents, Marvin and Daphney Dickey, are mourning the tragic loss of their beloved student-athlete son, who passed away in a tragic car accident on August 24, 2025.
After attending Nicholls State’s win against Incarnate Word on August 23, the defensive lineman was driving from Nicholls State to Perkinston on Sunday.
After transferring from Nicholls State, Marcus Dickey continued his football journey with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) Bulldogs.
His path to MGCCC began with a standout high school career at Biloxi High. He was a force on the Indians’ defensive line as a senior in 2020 and was also an All-Region 4 6A honoree.
His performance earned him a spot on the prestigious Mississippi Association of Coaches 6A All-State First Team. He finished third on the team with 61 total tackles.
Recruiting services recognized his talent, and 247Sports rated him as a three-star recruit, whereas Rivals rated him a two-star recruit.
Marcus initially signed with the Army but began his collegiate career at Nicholls State. He recorded three tackles over two seasons and nine appearances for the Colonels.
His experience and proven high-school production with the Bulldogs impacted their defensive line.
He was doing so good. He was the kind of kid who was the first one in the meeting, one of the first guys out at practice, one of the hardest workers in the weight room. He always had a big ol’ smile on his face. He was everything you would want out of a teammate. Everything.

Marcus Dickey, the son of Marvin and Daphney Dickey, was born on June 6, 2003, in Biloxi, Mississippi. His parents raised him in a supportive environment with his siblings and cousins.
Daphney often shared glimpses of their personal lives on social media.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College community and all who knew Marcus are heartbroken to announce his sudden passing.
He was a beloved son, teammate, and friend. Sadly, he passed away tragically in a car accident on Sunday.
He was driving from Nicholls State to the Perkinston campus at the time of the incident.
The details of the crash haven’t been released, but the impact of this profound loss is deeply felt by his family, his coaches, his teammates, and the entire student body at Biloxi.
Meagan and I passed a really bad car accident that turned out to be Marcus Dickey who was a player on his way back to campus, the same campus we were headed to. Today has been heavy, I spent most of the morning Picayune Jr. High and the rest of the day on campus in Perkinston. But I’m reminded that God is still good, even in the depths of our sorrows. And I when I’m squeezed, I want it to be Jesus that comes out.

He was a cornerstone of his team and a radiant force in the lives of those around him. On the field, he was rugged, dependable, and played a massive role in his team’s success.
His dedication and athletic prowess were undeniable, but it was his character that truly defined him. He possessed a fun, loving personality that could light up any room.
The defensive lineman was always smiling, and that joyful spirit was contagious, bringing happiness and comfort to everyone in his presence.
Anyone that knows my story knows how special the Dickey Family is to me. My heart hurts for Bubba, Daphne, Marvin, Jessica, Pam, Terra and Jennifer. I spent many holidays with Marcus while living with the Dickey Family. You always knew when Marcus came through the door because he lit up every room he was in. A young man gone way too soon. Dickey Brothers Memorial Funeral Home in Biloxi will handle funeral arrangements. The Dickey family will announce details at a later date.
Marcus Dickey’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. He will be profoundly missed.
