After losing their daughter in a tragic accident, Shawnee and Scott Baker now live with their two daughters, dedicating themselves to advocacy work.

Baylie Grogan, 19, was a sophomore at the University of Miami, studying microbiology and immunology.

She was an active member of the UM Equestrian team and the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

On August 19, 2018, just two days before her sophomore year at the University of Miami was set to begin, Baylie was struck by a car while crossing the street in Coral Gables, Florida.

She suffered a traumatic brain injury and was initially treated at Kendall Regional Hospital before being transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Tragically, she passed away following a serious accident on September 27, 2018, after spending 41 days in a coma.

Her family later revealed that two men in an Uber had given her a suspected date rape drug before the accident.

Disoriented and attempting to walk to safety in the pouring rain, she was hit by a vehicle, leading to her fatal injuries.

Baylie Grogan’s Parents Are Working To Introduce Baylie’s Law!

Baylie Grogan’s parents, Shawnee and Scott Baker, live on the Seacoast of New Hampshire with their daughters, Savannah and Seraphina.

Shawnee was previously married and had three children, including Baylie, before the age of 23 while working as a registered nurse in Texas.

After her first marriage ended, she moved back to Toronto for support.

She later met Scott Baker, who had built a career in finance and executive roles at companies like Goldman Sachs.

They married when Shawnee was 39 years old, and Scott was in his late 40s.

Together, they decided to have children through IVF, leading to the birth of their daughters, Savannah and Seraphina.

In recent days, they have been actively advocating for health care proxy awareness since their daughter’s tragic passing.

Moreover, they are working to introduce Baylie’s Law, which would require colleges to provide students with essential medical and legal forms.

Likewise, Baylie Grogan’s mother, Shawnee, has also shared their family’s emotional journey through her book, Baylie: A Life Shattered. A Promise Kept. A Secret Revealed, in which she outlines their painful experience and calls for policy changes.

Additionally, they collaborate closely with legislators to introduce new policies that safeguard students and their families.

They also collaborate with universities, parents, and safety organizations to spread awareness through community outreach.

Their mission is centered on preventing other families from experiencing similar distress and ensuring safer environments for college students.

  • Baylie had a deep passion for horseback riding and was known for her competitive spirit in the sport.
