Dwayne Collins, an American former professional basketball power forward, passed away on April 16, 2025. He lost his life three days after his 37th birthday on Wednesday.
Although the Collins family hasn’t announced the actual cause of his death, several sources have claimed it to be a heart attack.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dwayne Collins starred at Miami Senior High School before joining the University of Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team from 2006 to 2010.
He was a relentless rebounder and scorer, earning respect across the ACC over his four-year career.
The Phoenix Suns drafted him in the second round with the 60th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft. However, he signed with Italian team Cimberio Varese for the 2010–11 season.
After sustaining a knee injury before the start of the season, the Cimberio Varese waved him.
His next stint came in July 2013, when he joined the Suns for the 2013 NBA Summer League. In five games, he averaged 1.2 points in 5.3 minutes per game.
His tragic passing saddened the whole basketball community. He played for the Miami Tropics AAU team under coach Art “Pilin” Alvarez.

Dwayne Collins’s Family Mourns The Tragic Loss
The Miami University community and basketball world mourn the untimely passing of former Miami Hurricanes forward Dwayne Collins.
He was a beloved son, teammate, and fierce competitor who left an indelible mark on the court and in the hearts of those who knew him.
Dwayne pursued a professional career overseas, where his work ethic and leadership continued to shine. A liberal arts major enjoyed watching cartoons and movies off the court.
He was a fan favorite for his strength, athleticism, and relentless hustle. Though injuries shortened his playing days, he remained connected to the game, mentoring young athletes and staying active in the Miami basketball community.
He was a loyal friend and a man of deep faith off the court. His former coaches and teammates praised his work ethic, humility, and infectious positivity.
In October 2023, he worked as a superintendent at Toll Brothers before joining AvalonBay Communities in New Jersey in August 2024.
Known for his warm smile, quiet strength, and dedication to family, Dwayne was deeply loved beyond the game. His parents, unwavering supporters throughout his life and career, survived him.
His family will soon announce the details of his memorial service, which will be held in Miami, Florida. Instead of flowers, the Collins family requests donations to honor him.
