Former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was fired after a university investigation confirmed he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, violating school policy.
Following his dismissal, Moore was allegedly involved in a disturbing incident where he threatened self-harm and confronted the staffer with a knife before fleeing his home.
Police later located him at a church after his wife, Kelli, tracked his location, and he was placed in protective custody.
Local reports now confirm that Moore was detained by Saline police and transferred to Pittsfield Township authorities, held in Washtenaw County Jail amid an assault investigation.
No charges or bond have yet been announced. The fallout has been immediate, with Moore’s termination, his public disgrace, and uncertainty for Michigan’s football program, which has appointed Biff Poggi as interim head coach.
Sherrone Moore’s Alleged Relationship with a Staffer, Coupled with his Subsequent Actions, Forced him out of Michigan’s Head Coaching Role!
Sherrone Moore’s coaching career began in January 2018 when he joined the University of Michigan staff as the tight ends coach.
After three seasons, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, a role in which he helped Michigan’s offensive line win the prestigious Joe Moore Award in both 2021 and 2022.
In 2023, Moore stepped in as interim head coach during Jim Harbaugh’s suspension, co-leading the Wolverines to the College Football Playoff National Championship.
His success in that role led to his promotion as head coach for the 2024 season, where he finished with an 8–5 record.
In his second season, he guided Michigan to a 9–3 record and was preparing the team for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl before his termination.
Despite all these achievements and his once-promising career, Sherrone Moore was fired on December 10, 2025.
He is currently detained in Washtenaw County Jail amid an ongoing assault investigation.
UGA Recruiting News amplified the story on Facebook with a “WARNING GRAPHIC” headline, claiming Moore had been fired for the affair and sharing a screenshot of a message from a donor’s friend.
That message alleged Moore threatened to kill himself in front of the staffer, demanded she harm herself first, and was intercepted by police at a church.
Readers quickly shared their points of view in the comments, reflecting skepticism and speculation.
One commenter said, “I’m not going to believe this until it’s verified.” Another replied directly, saying, “it’s verified.“
Another, Mark Sharpe, claimed insider knowledge, saying,
“I have inside info about his arrest. All I will say is that there will be three more arrests connected to the situation within the next 48 hours.”
Together, the allegations, police detention, and public reactions underscore a dramatic fall from grace for Sherrone Moore.
