Jake Garcia, the Wolverines’ new quarterback from Whittier, California, showcases talent and determination, backed by his supportive parents, Randy and Yvonne.

Though legally separated since August 2020, Randy and Yvonne have remained dedicated to supporting their son’s football career, from high school transfers to his latest move to Michigan in 2025.

Jake Garcia’s Father, Randy Garcia, Is A Quarterback At The University of Nebraska

Randy was a standout athlete in his own right.

In 1972, he was named the “LA City Player of the Year,” a prestigious honor that highlighted his talent and leadership on the field.

After his football days, Randy dedicated 32 years of his life to serving with the Los Angeles Police Department, retiring in 2012.

His discipline and work ethic, developed through years of athletics and public service, have clearly influenced Jake’s approach to the game of football.

Randy’s commitment to Jake’s dreams is clear in the sacrifices he made.

In 2020, when Jake transferred to Valdosta High School in Georgia HS for his senior year, Randy relocated with him, leaving their home in Whittier, California, behind.

The two lived together in a furnished apartment, balancing Jake’s studies and football commitments.

Randy’s philosophy was clear: he didn’t want Jake to look back with regrets. In an interview around the time of the move, Randy said,

“we don’t want to be those parents that would have, could have, should have,I don’t want Jake to be at the backyard barbecue and be that uncle talking about, ‘Well, I would have, could have, should have, if my parents did this or did that.’ If he’s not going to maybe excel and succeed to his fullest potential, it’s going to be because of him. Not because we held him back or because we weren’t able to do something.”

Jake’s mother, Yvonne Garcia, has been a continuous presence in his life.

Working as an administrative assistant, Yvonne has supported Jake’s ambitions with quiet dedication.

While she may not seek the spotlight, her role in Jake’s journey is undeniable.

From his early days playing football in California to his high school and college transitions, Yvonne has been there, cheering him on through every triumph and challenge.

Even after her separation from Randy in August 2020, Yvonne remained a constant source of encouragement, ensuring Jake had the emotional support he needed to chase his dreams.

Together, Randy and Yvonne have shown Jake what it means to prioritize family and commitment.

Their willingness to put their aspirations first—whether it meant moving across the country or navigating the complexities of a separation—has left a lasting impact on Jake’s life and career.

Jake’s Football Career Has Been Full of Ups And Downs, Demonstrating His Talent, Hard Work, And Bold Choices

A four-star prospect out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, Jake made a name for himself as a quarterback with poise and precision.

His senior year at Valdosta High School was a key moment, as he moved 2,300 miles from California to compete in one of the most competitive high school football environments in the country.

The move paid off, earning him recognition and setting the stage for his college career.

In 2020, Jake signed with the University of Miami, a moment he celebrated with a heartfelt Instagram post dedicated to his parents.

“To my parents.. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for you guys and all that you have done. You guys have put in the best situations to succeed and I would not have been able to do it without you guys. Not too many parents would move 2,300 miles from home to let their son play his senior year of football. You guys have gone above and beyond for me and I can’t thank you enough for all the work you guys have put into me.I love you guys.”

After Miami, Jake transferred to the University of Missouri, where he earned a spot on the 2023 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll, showcasing his ability to balance academics and athletics.

In January 2024, he made a mid-year transfer to East Carolina University, where he participated in spring drills and continued to hone his skills.

Now, in 2025, Jake has landed at the University of Michigan, ready to compete for the Wolverines and add another chapter to his football story.

Despite Their Separation, Randy And Yvonne Have Never Wavered In Their Support For Jake

They’ve been there through every transfer, every game, and every decision, ensuring he has the tools to succeed.

Their sacrifices—relocating across the country, adjusting to new environments, and prioritizing Jake’s dreams—speak a lot about their love and commitment.

Jake’s gratitude for his parents shines through in his words and actions. His Instagram tribute in 2020 wasn’t just a thank-you; it was a tribute to the extraordinary lengths his parents went to for him.

As Jake steps onto the field for the Michigan Wolverines, he carries with him the lessons and love of his parents.

Randy’s competitive spirit and Yvonne’s quiet strength have shaped him into the athlete and person he is today.

While Jake’s journey has taken him from California to Georgia, Miami to Missouri, and now Michigan, one thing remains constant: the unwavering support of his parents.

Though Randy and Yvonne may not seek the spotlight, their influence is felt in every pass Jake throws and every decision he makes.

As he embarks on this new chapter in Ann Arbor, Jake Garcia’s parents remain his biggest fans, cheering him on as he chases his dreams under the bright lights of college football.
