Millbrook basketball guard Shawn Rooks passed away unexpectedly in February 2025; however, the prime reason behind his demise remains unknown.
The Millbrook High School community is mourning the sudden loss of Shawn Rooks, a talented and dedicated guard on the school’s basketball team.
High school basketball player Shawn is survived by his parents’ father, Jason, mother, Koryn Rooks, and sister, Kennedi Rooks.
Jason and Koryn, being the most supportive parents, always made sure they helped Shawn follow his dreams in every way possible. Meanwhile, they are mourning his loss.
Shawn was preceded in demise by his grandmother, Christine, with whom he maintained a close bond. She passed away about ten years ago.
During an interview with The Winchester Star, when asked with whom you would like to have dinner with three dead loved ones, Shawn included his grandmother and expressed his desire to have dinner with her and relive the memories.
High School Player Shawn Rooks Aspired to Become a Sports Analyst After Graduation!
Shawn Rooks was a key player for the Millbrook basketball team. He was known not only for his impressive skills on the basketball court but also for his sportsmanship.
The 5-foot-9-inch small forward from the Class of 2023, Shawn, aspired to study journalism and become a sports analyst.
Rooks played as a point guard and shooting guard, donning jersey #33. Throughout his high school career, he solidified a promising career for himself.
As a freshman in 2021, Rooks competed for Millbrook’s JV team. He showcased his outstanding ball-handling, shooting, and defensive skills during his freshman year.
In December 2023, Rooks was one of four players in double figures for Millbrook, scoring 13 points in a 72-55 win against Handley.
Recently, in January 2025, he hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 50 seconds left, helping Millbrook to a 53-51 victory over Sherando boys’ high school basketball at Sherando.
Not to forget, Oklahoma City point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander inspired Shawn Rooks to play basketball. He always looked up to him.

Not to forget, his elder sister, Kennedi Rooks, is also a basketball player. She is a small forward from the Class of 2023 at Millbrook High School.
She showcased well-rounded skills as a key contributor to her high school team and GTS Fusion at the club level. Her ability to finish at the rim, knock down mid-range jumpers, and defend multiple positions set her apart.
