The Missouri State University community mourns the loss of 21-year-old football safety Todric McGee, leaving a void for his family, teammates, and fans.
Todric is survived by his parents, Stephanie Pope and Amiel McGee, and his two siblings, Chaquil and Tahlia.
Many who knew Todric’s bright spirit share their grief.
Todric was more than a football player. He was a leader for the Missouri State Bears. As the starting safety in 2023 and 2024, he earned all-conference honors.
His 2023 season was stellar, with over 100 tackles, a rare feat for the team.
Even in 2024, despite a season-ending injury after five games, he made 42 tackles and an interception. His energy on the field was unmatched.
Coach Ryan Beard called Todric’s loss a shock.
“Our football family is in shock and in mourning at the loss of Todric,We ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and our MoState football team at this time as we begin the healing process. Join us in praying for Todric and the people who loved him.”

Todric was set to be a key player in the team’s move to Conference USA in 2025. His absence will be deeply felt.
Todric grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and shone at Wichita Northwest High School. He played football, basketball, and ran track.
At Missouri State, he also studied Exercise and Movement Science, chasing his dreams off the field. His smile lit up rooms, and teammates and coaches loved his positivity.
The Wichita Northwest Grizzlies shared their sorrow online.
His brother, Chaquil, and father, Amiel, were also part of his tight-knit family. Todric’s warmth touched everyone.
A Tragic Accident
On April 18, 2025, police responded to a wellness check at Todric’s apartment in Springfield, Missouri. They found him with a possible accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was rushed to the hospital but passed away early the next morning.
The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe it was a tragic accident. The news stunned the community.
Missouri State’s Director of Athletics, Patrick Ransdell, spoke for the university, saying:
“This tragedy has shaken our football program to the core, and we want them to know we are here to support them in every way possible at this extremely difficult time.”
