Ben C. Rain High School and the greater Mobile community are mourning the death of Coach Ben Glover, the longtime principal and football coach whose steady leadership shaped generations of students.

According to the family, he passed away this morning after a recent illness. He was at peace as he left them.

Glover spent over four decades in education, first as a coach and later as a principal who never stopped caring for kids.

School officials released a statement calling him a “steadfast leader” whose service “left an immeasurable impact on generations of students, staff, and families.”

The statement added that his legacy lives on in “the countless lives he touched” and in the values he instilled. In short, every child mattered to him.

His son, Rusty Glover, posted a brief family announcement that captured the tone of the day: “Well done, thy good and faithful servant. Our father, Ben Glover, passed away this morning from a recent illness. He was at peace asleep as he left us. Thank you all for your prayers.” The family has asked for prayers and privacy as they grieve.

Hundreds of Tributes Pour in

Former students and neighbors responded quickly online. Scott Peters, who remembered Glover from his university days, recalled a man who “could tell a story and always had an encouraging word.”

Peters added, “Mr. Glover ran well and finished the race.” Others echoed that view.

Bonnie Wiese called him “a true icon” of the Parkway. Alexandria Wallace remembered the small, human moments — seeing Mr. and Mrs. Glover holding hands on walks — and said she admired them as a couple.

Alumni comments show the scale of his reach. Rodney Robinson described Glover as a “much needed fixture” in his life from eighth grade forward.

He wrote that Glover remembered students by name and would often stop to pray with them, even decades after graduation.

Classmates and former players shared similar memories: a coach who pushed them on the field, a principal who pushed them to be better people.

Several former students said they wouldn’t have finished school without his input.

Neighbors recall the same kindness in daily life. Some saw him walking in the mall. Others remembered him picking up grandchildren in the car rider line.

Former colleagues and parents described him as faithful, encouraging, and present, the kind of leader who showed up and stayed involved.

As a coach, Glover is remembered for toughness and care. As a principal, he is remembered for fairness and faith.

The combination made him a fixture in Mobile-area athletics and schools for decades.

The outpouring of messages, from short prayers to long recollections, makes clear how many lives he touched. Threads of gratitude and grief run through each post.

Funeral arrangements have been announced. Visitation will be on Friday at Dauphin Way Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following.

Interment will be in Leroy, Alabama, Coach Glover’s childhood home.

The family says they appreciate the community’s prayers and support. They have asked for privacy while they make final arrangements and remember their husband, father, and friend.

Ben Glover’s life was quiet in its heroism. He coached teams, led a school, and treated people with dignity.

For the many who learned from him, that will be his lasting legacy. Rest well, Coach.
