Monroe, Louisiana: Carroll High School Football Program Suspended After Postgame Brawl

Carroll High School’s football season has been cut short following a postgame brawl involving Carroll players and Assumption High School fans after a game in Louisiana.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association suspended the Carroll football program for the remainder of the 2026 season after the incident that followed Carroll’s 14 to 6 loss to Assumption. The decision was announced Wednesday, Sept. 30, following a meeting involving LHSAA officials and representatives from both schools.

The suspension means Carroll will forfeit its final six games of the season. The program had six games remaining on its schedule before the ruling.

Carroll Coaches Face Additional Penalty

The LHSAA also revoked the coaching cards for Carroll’s coaches for one full calendar year. The penalty comes as the athletic association continues to address the circumstances surrounding the postgame incident.

Carroll High School has said it plans to appeal the LHSAA decision. School officials have not publicly released additional details about the appeal process.

The incident reportedly began during the handshake line after the game, when the two teams had to be separated. According to reports, Carroll players later moved toward an area where Assumption fans were gathered, leading to a confrontation.

Tas ers were reportedly used as authorities attempted to control the situation.

Officials said no Assumption players were involved in the fight, with the school’s players remaining on the field when the incident occurred. A Carroll player and an Assumption fan are facing pending charges related to disturbing the peace.

The LHSAA said it expects member schools to maintain appropriate safety, security and sportsmanship procedures. The association also said schools, coaches, student athletes and other participants can be held accountable when violations occur.

Assumption Receives Fine and Home Game Changes

Assumption High School was not suspended, but the school received a $500 fine for its role in the incident. The school must also submit an action plan covering its administrative and logistical procedures for the rest of its home games.

As part of the ruling, Assumption will not host any additional games this season. Its remaining home contests have been moved to road games.

The decision means Assumption will play six straight weeks on the road. The Mustangs were scheduled to have three remaining home games.

Monroe City Schools also addressed the ruling, saying the consequences affect student-athletes and families who had worked throughout the season. The district said it would work with Carroll High School administrators to meet the requirements of the LHSAA decision and support students affected by the end of the football season.

The situation brings an early end to Carroll’s season after only four games and leaves both Louisiana programs dealing with the consequences of the postgame incident.
