The professional tennis player was born in Stockport, England, on February 28, 1990.

She is the daughter of a proud father, Simo Broady, and a mother, Shirley Broady. Her parents were real estate moguls and used to work in the music industry.

Along with her parents, Naomi grew up with three siblings; two brothers named Liam Broady and Calum Broady and a sister named Emma Broady.

Her brother, Liam Broady, is also a prominent figure in the tennis world. He was the winner of Junior Wimbledon champion in 2010 and the Junior Australian Open champion in 2012.

From a young age, Naomi had a deep passion for tennis and started playing when she was 7.

She joined the junior ITF tour at 13 and became the British under eighteen girls’ champion in 2007.

Initially, Naomi started her tennis journey by competing on the junior ITF circuit from January 2004 until June 2008

Later in 2006, she got honored with one singles title at the Sutton ITF Junior Tournament, but unfortunately, she lost in other quarterfinals.  

Eventually, Naomi also participated in junior doubles. However, she could not win any title but reached the quarterfinal in four tournaments and the semifinal in one.

In the end, she got ranked in the 251st number in the career-high ranking and had a win-loss record of 11-15.

Following January 2005, she played on the adult ITF circuit but didn’t qualify in any five matches. However, in 2006, with hard work and dedication, she continued playing on the ITF circuit. 

Fortunately, in 2007, she reached the quarterfinals of the Sunderland 10,000 tournament but lost to Anna Smith.

That year, she also reached the semifinals of the Sunderland competition but again got beaten by Christina Wheeler. Subsequently, she got ranked 713 that year.

2008 – 2009

In 2008, Broady made a promising start in Sunderland by reaching the semifinals of her first $10k ITF tournament. Later in June 2008, she also made her debut on the WTA Tour.

After that, she participated in the Tier III Birmingham Classic tournament and defeated Andreja Klepač but lost a hard-fought fight in the second round to Margit Rüütel.

In addition, she made her first Grand Slam appearance at Wimbledon during a qualifying match but was defeated by Rika Fujiwara in the initial round.

Likewise, she spent the rest of the season on the ITF circuit and participated in three more quarterfinals. In the end, she got ranked number 444. 

Moving to 2009, Broady qualified for the quarterfinals of the Glasgow in January 2009. Following her success, she also reached the quarterfinals of an ITF tournament.

Her excellent display in the event shifted her position into the top 400 for the first time in her life. 

Moreover, in June, she passed for the WTA main draw, which happened at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, where she competed against Alla Kudryavtseva.

Unfortunately, she got beaten by Katie O’Brien in the second round of qualifiers. Sadly, Naomi got seriously injured and halted participating in tournaments for a while.

But it came with a full strike for a $25,000 event in Mexico and won another. The following week, she again won a $10,000 event in Cuba.

2014 – 2015

Broady received a wild card into Wimbledon’s main draw following a successful season, including tournament wins in Sharm El Sheikh, Namangan, and Fukuoka.

Subsequently, that year she won her first Grand Slam victory. 

Likewise, she also reached the Aegon Surbiton Trophy’s semifinals and achieved her first win of the season by winning against Ajla Tomljanović at the Birmingham Classic. 

Sadly, she lost to Simona Halep in the next round. Fortunately, Naomi picked her pace when she qualified for the main draw of the Citi Open.

In the event, she beat Jarmila Gajdošová in three sets. This remarkable performance achieved her first win as the main draw of a WTA event.

Consequently, after defeating Robin Anderson, she also won her first season title at a $25,000 Landisville event.

After that, Broady ventured to qualify for the U.S. Open but got defeated by Anett Kontaveit.

Eventually, that year, Broady competed in the Coleman Vision Tennis Championships’ final match, where she lost to Michaëlla Krajicek.

There, she was close to breaking the record of the ITF female player with her 28 aces. That brought her to a career ranking of 116.


Broady started her 2016 with a kick start by participating in the ASB Classic, Auckland.

She joined the qualifying round and won matches against Laura Siegemund, Kateryna Kozlova, and Magdaléna Rybáriková.

2017- 2021

In 2017, Broady competed in the ITF Dow Tennis Classic in February 2017, reaching the singles final but being defeated by Tatjana Maria.
