The Nashua North High School community mourns the devastating loss of Ian Blake, a recent 2025 graduate who died in a drowning accident during a boating incident on June 21, 2025.

The young man, known for his infectious positivity and boundless energy, drowned in a lake approximately one hour from his hometown, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and unfulfilled dreams.

Sterling Blake, Ian’s father, confirmed the heartbreaking news through a social media post, stating that his son died in a boating accident that resulted in drowning.

The family received notification of the tragedy, which occurred in a lake about an hour from their location.

Details surrounding the exact circumstances of the accident remain limited as authorities continue their investigation.

The accident cut short the life of a young man who had just graduated from high school and stood ready to embark on his adult journey.

Ian had recently completed his studies at Nashua North High School as part of the Class of 2025, where he excelled both academically and athletically as a track athlete.

Ian Blake’s Death Leaves Friends Heartbroken And His Community Grieving

Those who knew Ian describe him as an extraordinary individual whose presence brightened every room he entered.

Kyle Chhim, Ian’s best friend and someone he considered a brother, organized a fundraiser to support the Blake family during this devastating time.

Walter Freeman, one of Ian’s teachers, captured the young man’s vibrant personality perfectly, comparing him to Dani Rojas from the television show Ted Lasso due to his infectious enthusiasm and positive energy.

Freeman described Ian as someone who “filled the room when he entered” and expressed how impossible it seemed to comprehend that such boundless energy had been stilled so tragically and prematurely.

Ian’s influence extended far beyond his immediate circle of friends and family.

At Nashua North High School, he served as a prominent voice in the school community, regularly making morning announcements over the PA system at 7:20 AM to wish his fellow students a good day.

Katie Closs, a school staff member, fondly remembered these moments and Ian’s enthusiastic co-hosting of pep rallies.

Closs painted a vivid picture of Ian’s school presence, describing his “huge grin” and the way he and his crew would create “the best kind of chaos between passing periods.

She emphasized that Ian embodied “everything amazing about our North community,” highlighting how his loss affects not just his family but the entire school community, students, and staff.

The young man’s positive impact traced back to his elementary school days.

Sheri Smith recalled Ian’s time at Broad Street Elementary, where teachers and students alike loved him for his kindness and pleasant demeanor.

Smith noted that this exceptional character never wavered as Ian grew into a young man, describing him as someone who “defines kindness and is loved by so many.
