Nearly Two Years After The Fatal Accident Involving UGA Players Chandler LeCroy And Devin Willock, Willock’s Family Files $2 Million Negligence Lawsuit Against The Georgia Board Of Regents

Chandler LeCroy and Devin Willock were both fatally injured and tragically lost their lives in a car crash on January 15, 2023.

This happened around 2:45 a.m. in Athens, Georgia, shortly after the University of Georgia football team celebrated its national championship win.

LeCroy, a recruiting analyst for the Bulldogs, lost control of the Ford Expedition she was operating while traveling at a high rate of speed after leaving a strip club.

She and Willock, an offensive lineman, were both declared dead at the accident site.

Two other riders, UGA football player Warren McClendon and recruiting staff member Victoria Bowles, survived the incident but suffered serious injuries.

The accident occurred on Barnett Shoals Road after LeCroy’s car hit two power poles and some trees.

Preliminary investigations revealed that LeCroy had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.197 when the accident occurred, which is more than twice the legal limit.

Witnesses said LeCroy and former Bulldogs star Jalen Carter were racing down downtown Athens just moments before the accident.

After this fatal crash, UGA authorities stated that LeCroy should not have driven the university-rented SUV once she had completed official work.

Nevertheless, Willock’s family assures that she was told to keep the vehicle available throughout the weekend so that she might remain “on call” for coaches and recruits.

Willock’s Family Has Filed A Lawsuit Against The Georgia Board!

On January 15, 2025, two and a half years after the accident, LeCroy’s family sued the Georgia Board of Regents for $2 million in damages.

They blame the university for negligence in letting LeCroy drive the hired car, which resulted in the accident.

The lawsuit also alleges that LeCroy had been provided alcohol while employed as UGA staff.

In addition to the suit by LeCroy’s family, Victoria Bowles has also filed suit against Jalen Carter and others for more than $171,000 in damages.

Her suit claims that she did not know LeCroy had been drinking and that UGA staff members routinely gave recruits rides home after they had been drinking, a practice against school policy.

Chandler Lecroy And Devin Willock’s accident has also had long-lasting consequences for the UGA football team.

Various speeding and reckless driving cases have involved players and staff members since January 2023.

This includes at least 24 reported traffic incidents since the event.

As the lawsuit progresses, both families seek justice for their losses.

They also seek to highlight broader issues in college sports regarding alcohol and transportation policies for recruits and student-athletes.

Their tragic deaths are a harsh reminder of the possible outcome of reckless activity and carelessness.

While investigators carry out investigations and plaintiffs file suits, their families hope for justice and change to prevent tragedies like theirs from happening again in the future.
