A Heartbreaking loss for the community!

NEOSHO, Mo. — The Neosho community is grieving after the sudden death of Annie Strickling, a 40 year-old-art teacher at RISE Elementary and a former JHS cheerleader.

Colleagues, parents, and students remembered Strickling for the warmth she brought into classrooms, the small kindnesses that made kids feel seen, and a bright energy that left a lasting impression on everyone she taught.

“As a parent, there are moments you never forget, especially when someone truly sees your child,” wrote Morgan Renner, one of many parents who posted a tribute.

“My son’s art teacher Annie Strickling did that. She saw him for who he is and loved him there. He loved her so much and described her as a rainbow.”

Renner’s post, shared with a photo and memories, captured how Strickling turned simple classroom moments into safety and joy for children.

A Great Teacher, and Even Greater Human

Parents and students described a teacher who went beyond lesson plans.

Addi Marn recalled ritualized Thursday donuts and braided hair after class: “Art days were always Everlee’s favorite, not because of art, but because of Miss Strickling. Everlee thought she hung the stars. … When E had issues or anxiety at school, she would tell Annie EVERYTHING. She was so much more than a teacher.”

Those details show how Strickling’s care reached into students’ lives in quiet, meaningful ways.

The news shocked families and staff. “That moment you get a notification that stops you in your tracks,” wrote Meleah Tucker-Yarnell.

“Please pray for the hearts of everyone at RISE Elementary as they navigate the devastating loss of one of their own. My son’s favorite subject is art and he took the news hard.”

Other parents echoed that sense of disbelief and sorrow: “It’s so horrible!! I have some upset kids tonight,” one wrote, while another said, “She was a bright and colorful light.”

Colleagues and former students described similar heartbreak. Samantha Tarrant wrote that daily parent pick-ups will no longer include Strickling’s familiar “I love you” send-offs, while Jessica Rice said her child still remembers Strickling’s kindness years after being in her class.

On social posts, people who once had Strickling as a teacher, at RISE, at Carver, and other local schools, shared memories of how she helped children succeed and feel safe.

Family members have asked for privacy while the district and community process the loss; officials have not released detailed information about the circumstances, and friends cautioned against speculation.

Out of respect for the family, reporting here does not speculate on the cause of death.

The outpouring shows how a teacher’s daily acts, braiding hair, saving a glazed donut for a child, and listening when a student was anxious, can become the fabric of a community’s grief.

“You made such a positive difference in this crazy world,” Morgan Renner wrote in reply to condolences. “She made such a positive difference in this crazy world. Thinking of your precious family.”

For many families, the loss is especially raw because students saw Strickling as a consistent source of encouragement.

Parents described children who “beamed” after art class, who called Thursdays special, and who relied on her as a trusted adult.

The grief is not only for a teacher taken too soon but for the ordinary moments her absence will erase from school days.

School officials and community members are rallying support for RISE students and staff.

Parents urged each other to keep children close and to be ready to answer questions with care.

Local families offered hugs and practical help as teachers and administrators plan how to support students returning to class.

Details about services, memorials, or a district plan for grief support have not been publicly confirmed.

Those with verified information from the family or the district are being asked to respect the family’s request for privacy and to channel inquiries through official school contacts.

Annie Strickling’s legacy is already clear in the posts and pictures now shared across Neosho: a teacher who brightened classrooms, who built trust with children, and who treated students like people first.

In social posts and private messages, parents and colleagues urged the community to honor that work by supporting one another and keeping the children she loved at the center of the response.
