New Fairfield, Connecticut Mourns Former New Fairfield High School Multi-Sports Standout Nicholas “Nick” Gioia, Survived by Fiancé Jill and Family

The New Fairfield, Connecticut, community is mourning the untimely death of a beloved native and former athlete, Nick Gioia.

Nick Gioia passed away on December 6, 2025; however, the details surrounding his untimely death have not been disclosed yet.

Born in New Fairfield, Connecticut, as the oldest of four children to parents, Paul and Kim Gioia, Nicholas ‘Nick’ Gioia was a cherished member of the sports community and touched the lives of many with his cheerful nature.

A 2010 graduate of New Fairfield High School, Nick stood 6’1″ and 170 lbs, competing in football, lacrosse, basketball, and participating in DECA and FBLA.

He shined as a Varsity Football player wearing #82 at WR and CB, and as a Varsity Lacrosse standout wearing #37 at Attack, helping lead his team to impressive seasons, including a 23-0 run in 2007 with a national rank of #87 and state rank of #5, followed by a 23-2 season in 2008 ranked nationally at #167 and #12 in the state.

Nick also contributed to a 6-4 football record during his senior year, earning respect as a hardworking and competitive athlete.

After graduating from New Fairfield High School, Nick Gioia continued his athletic career at West Virginia University, where he played lacrosse for the men’s team and led his team in several victories.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in General Business Administration from WVU in 2015.

In addition to being an amazing athlete at WVU, Nick was also a member of Phi Kappa Psi, Chapma Official, Underclassman Marketing Scholars Club, and many more.

Although Nick Gioia didn’t pursue his career in sports professionally, he was thriving in his career in the Financial sector.

The Late Nick Gioia Was Working at NetApp, a Renowned Software Development Company

From 2021 until his recent passing, Nick Gioia was serving as an AWS Cloud Specialist/ Financial Sector at NetApp, a software development company based in New York City.

Prior to that, he served as an engineered systems account executive at Oracle for nearly two years and in different positions, including a summit program-solution sales specialist and a storage and cloud account executive at IBM for five years.

Nick also served as an assistant business and economics operations student employee at West Virginia University while pursuing his Bachelor’s degree and as a summer finance intern at Northwestern Mutual.

His remarkable journey as a multi-sports athlete and his contribution to the community as a finance professional will always be remembered.

Many of Nick Gioia’s loved ones are sharing his memories on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Nick is survived by his parents, Paul and Kim, his three younger brothers, Sam, Dan, and Ben, his loving fiancée, Jill, and the entire family.

The couple was set to get married on May 29, 2026.

The untimely demise of Nick Gioia has turned the lives of his family and loved ones upside down, and during this unimaginable situation, one of Nick’s friend and boss at Amazon Web Services, Tyler Flynn, has created a GoFundMe to support his fiancée, Jill, financially.

The fundraiser aims to accumulate $40k, and to date, around $37,792 has been raised.

Loved ones remember Nick Gioia as a “special man who left a positive lasting impact on countless individuals.”

“He could light up any room, and had a smile and energy that was contagious to all who knew him. Nick was passionate about everything that he did, and had immense love for his family, his friends, his fiancé, and their dog, Cooper.”
