Christopher Fernandes, a Former athlete, paraeducator, and boys’ basketball coach at New Fairfield High School in Connecticut, was arrested on May 21, 2025, for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student.

The Bethel native, once celebrated for his athletic achievements, now faces multiple charges, including second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, use of a computer to entice a minor in sexual activity, harmful communication with a child, and risk of injury to a minor, according to Connecticut State Police.

Christopher Fernandes Was No Stranger To The Local Sports Scene

A Bethel High School alumnus, he was a standout athlete during his high school years from 2015 to 2016.

Fernandes competed on the varsity football team, wearing the #24 cornerback jersey, and participated in basketball.

His true passion, however, was track.

He ran on indoor and outdoor track teams for multiple seasons, competing in events such as the 4×800, 800, 300 hurdles, and 4×400 relays.

As a senior, he proudly served as the captain of the outdoor track team, earning respect from peers and coaches alike.

After graduating, Fernandes continued his athletic journey at Eastern Connecticut State University, where he ran cross country and track.

As a paraeducator and boys’ basketball coach at New Fairfield High School, Fernandes was in a position of trust, working closely with students both in the classroom and on the court.

During an interview with police, the victim shared disturbing details about an incident that allegedly occurred in January 2025.

She told investigators that while attending a New Fairfield High School sporting event, Fernandes texted her to meet him in the school parking lot.

When she arrived at his car, she alleges that Fernandes forced her to engage in sexual intercourse in the backseat.

The victim described the car’s interior as cluttered with Furby plush toys on the dashboard, a detail that would later prove significant in the investigation.

Connecticut State Police moved swiftly to corroborate the victim’s account.

DNA samples and other physical evidence from the scene supported her story, strengthening the case against Fernandes.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Fernandes turned himself in to authorities.

He was charged with multiple felonies and is currently being held on a $350,000 bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
