Former Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers, who was previously banned by the NCAA for sports betting, is once again making headlines as he begins a new chapter as a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.
On May 12, 2025, Hunter Dekkers officially signed with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent, marking the start of his professional career and silencing those who doubted his comeback after the betting scandal.
Back in 2023, while playing for the Iowa State football program, Hunter Dekkers was accused of betting on Cyclones sports teams, allegedly using his parents, Jami and Scott, as a third party to conceal his online gambling identity.
According to reports, Hunter Dekkers placed 366 online bets worth more than $2,799, covering 25 Cyclones athletic events, including a 2021 football game against Oklahoma State in which he didn’t play with his parents’ help.
Furthermore, Hunter Dekkers was accused of using his mother Jami and father Scott’s identities to place bets while he was still underage, as the legal betting age in Iowa is 21 years old.
Although former Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers and his parents, Jami and Scott, faced backlash and criticism in the past, it’s now behind them.
The new Saints quarterback, Hunter Dekkers, is now making his parents proud as he begins a new chapter in his career.
Despite their struggles and hard times, Jami and Scott never gave up on their only son and remained his constant supporters.
Talking about Hunter Dekkers’ parents, his mother, Jami Lynott Dekkers, a graduate of the University of South Dakota, currently works as an Independent Insurance Agent at Aflac in Hawarden, Iowa. However, no information about his father Scott’s professional life is available.
Although very little is known about Dekkers’ parents, Jami and Scott often share pictures of their athletic son and daughters on their social media, expressing their love and pride.
