Former Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers, who was previously banned by the NCAA for sports betting, is once again making headlines as he begins a new chapter as a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.
On May 12, 2025, Hunter Dekkers officially signed with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent, marking the start of his professional career and silencing those who doubted his comeback after the betting scandal.
Back in 2023, while playing for the Iowa State football program, Hunter Dekkers was accused of betting on Cyclones sports teams, allegedly using his parents, Jami and Scott, as a third party to conceal his online gambling identity.
According to reports, Hunter Dekkers placed 366 online bets worth more than $2,799, covering 25 Cyclones athletic events, including a 2021 football game against Oklahoma State in which he didn’t play with his parents’ help.
