Brian Rolapp’s Parents, Rich And Marilyn, Left A Lasting Impact On Their Communities!

Brian Rolapp’s parents, Rich Rolapp and Marilyn Johnson Rolapp Brinton, met while attending Brigham Young University (BYU), and the couple married in 1963.

They lived in Washington, D.C., for 25 years, where they raised four children: Todd, Juliane, Brian, and Ashley.

After Rich’s passing in 1993, Marilyn later married Robert L. Brinton in 1994. They moved to Salt Lake City in 2004 and spent 28 years together.

Tragically, she passed away on January 13, 2023, at the age of 81, surrounded by loved ones.

Brian Rolapp’s father, Rich Rolapp, was a prominent figure in the American Horse Council (AHC), serving as its president from 1974 to 1993.

Harvard Law School graduate, he was a passionate advocate for the horse industry.

He helped pass key legislation for the horse industry, including the Interstate Horse Racing Act of 1978 and the Pari-Mutuel Simplification Act of 1988.

He also led the first national study on the economic impact of the U.S. horse industry.

His contributions earned him the Jockey Club Medal and the title of Racing Action’s Person of the Year in 1992.

Sadly, Rolapp passed away from cancer on May 14, 1993, at the age of 52, leaving behind a legacy of leadership in the equine world.

In his honor, the Rolapp Award was established by the AHC to recognize members of Congress who have significantly supported the horse industry.

On the flip side, Marilyn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in History and Education from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1963 and was Homecoming Queen in her senior year.

She worked as a teacher in Montgomery County, Maryland, and at Christ Episcopal School for eight years.
