Jonathan Toews, a Canadian professional ice hockey center who last played for the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL, serving as the team captain, raises curiosity about his illness and healing journey among netizens.

The two-time Winter Olympics gold medalist, Jonathan Toews, announced in 2023 that he would be taking an indefinite break from his NHL journey to focus on his health, raising concerns about his health condition.

While some were aware of his medical condition, many of his fans were concerned whether Jonathan Toews was suffering from a serious illness.

Furthermore, Jonathan Toews was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), a condition where the immune system overreacts to various triggers, causing inflammation and fatigue.

This condition also led him to miss the entire 2020-21 NHL season and parts of the 2022-23 season.

In addition to CIRS, Jonathan Toews also experienced the effects of long COVID, including fatigue and other lingering symptoms after contracting the virus, which further limited his ability to play in the 2022-23 season.

The ongoing battle with illness and significant health issues eventually forced Jonathan Toews to step away from his hockey career. However, he recently opened up about his healing journey and potential return to the league.

Jonathan Toews Seeks Relief in India with Traditional Ayurvedic Therapy

Jonathan Toews traveled to India to undergo Panchakarma, a traditional Ayurvedic detox, as part of his treatment for Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS).

In November 2024, Jonathan Toews shared his healing journey on Instagram, detailing how his five weeks in India had changed his life.

Moreover, Jonathan shared that he spent five weeks in India undergoing an Ayurvedic detox called Panchakarma, a healing protocol designed to restore health by cleansing and releasing toxins stored deep in the body.

He further added that he had experienced many ups and downs, brief moments of hope while working with a variety of different doctors and modalities, followed by doubts about whether things would ever improve. However, after undergoing Panchakarma, he feels completely different.

Similarly, Jonathan Toews shared that he had been searching for a way to heal the inflammatory and immune system issues for almost five years, which had taken him out of hockey.

“The wisdom of Ayurveda has taught me that everything I experience, I am responsible for. Not only did it teach me better diet choices specific to my body type, it has deepened my intuitive relationship with myself and the world around me.”

He further shared another Instagram post in December 2024, expressing his gratitude to Ayurveda Yoga Villa and the people who helped him in his healing journey.

The post reads:

“Thank you all for the supportive comments and text messages I’ve received. If you have been through similar struggles, I hope this message gives you a little hope and you feel the nudge to look into it.The 5 week Panchakarma at @ayurvedayogavilla was a grind, but it left me feeling so much lighter and revitalized. Aside from the detox treatments, the most powerful aspect was being surrounded by amazing people who have a totally different culture and way of life. It became easy to see I was burning the candle at both ends.I now consider it such a blessing to have gone through these challenges. It’s crazy to feel this level of gratitude for the little things, but what seems more insane is to have forgotten that this feeling should be normal. It feels like my body returned to factory settings.”
