His three-pointer record is almost impossible to break!

Stephen Curry’s rise from a relatively Short Height School Athlete to NBA Stardom is truly due to his consistency, dedication, and skill, which he has shown over the years.

Another vital aspect that shaped his career is definitely his family background. His father, Dell, was also an NBA player for the Charlotte Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Toronto Raptors.

Despite his famous last name, his path to the NBA was still uncertain, mainly due to his size. Curry was often considered undersized, standing only 6 feet and weighing less than 150 Pounds as a junior at Charlotte Christian School, which was relatively small in comparison to other college athletes.

When he was attending Queens Grant Community School in Charlotte, North Carolina, during middle school, he was reportedly just 5’7″, which was marginally less for students who played basketball.

As a result, he wasn’t heavily recruited by major college programs, but he still showed glimpses of deadly long-range shooting.

Despite the size, coaches were impressed by his work ethic and skills. Curry helped lead the Charlotte Christians team to three state championships in North Carolina and was also named conference MVP multiple times.

College Success to NBA Glory

While he had an outstanding basketball career at Charlotte Christian School, no powerhouse programs decided to sign him, doubting his physicality and size for the NCAA Division 1 Level.

He played three seasons for the Davidson Wildcats from 2006 to 2008, until his junior year, before declaring for the NBA Draft.

His selection for the mid-major program was a blessing in disguise, as it allowed him to develop as a primary scorer, gain exposure nationally, and prepare for the NBA, all without any match pressure he would have in traditional powerhouses.

At Davidson College, he led the Wildcats to the Elite Eights in the 2008 NCAA tournament, averaging over 30 points per game.

Curry also won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championship in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, and was also named Southern Conference Player of the Year multiple times.

This helped him get drafted in the NBA. The GSW selected him as the seventh overall pick. During the draft, he was listed as a 6’2″ player and weighed around 185 pounds.

Curry has since revolutionized his game with exceptional shooting ability, winning multiple NBA championships and two MVP awards.

The 37-year-old has over 4000 career three-pointers. The previous record was held by Ray Allen, who had made 2873 three-pointers.

He has also been named the NBA Finals MVP in 2022 and is listed among the top 75 players in NBA History.

Curry has Stephen Curry has scored 25,386 points in the regular season and 4,147 points in the playoffs, bringing his total career points to 29,533 as of the end of the 2024–25 NBA season.

He currently ranks in the top 15, if we combine the playoffs and regular season points in his career, which spans just over 16 seasons.

  • Stephen Curry has won four NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. The last championship one was the only time GSW defeated the Boston Celtics instead of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the finals.
