Gunfire erupted at a child’s birthday party inside a banquet hall on Lucile Avenue in Stockton, California.

The celebration had drawn between 100 and 150 people when gunfire suddenly broke out.

In the chaos, four people were killed, including three children, Amari, and two younger children of age 8 and 9, and a young man, and 11 others were injured.

Authorities confirmed the attack happened just after 6 p.m. local time, and victims were rushed to multiple hospitals in the area.

Amari Peterson’s Parents, Kim and Patrick, Mourn Their Son, Saying ‘No Family Should Ever Go From Planning Birthdays to Planning Funerals

Amari Peterson was a dedicated student and a passionate athlete. He attended school in Modesto, California, where he played football and basketball.

He often spent his free time practicing and dreaming of playing at the college level.

Beyond athletics, he focused on his studies, aiming to build a future in which he could combine academics with sports.

In the days since Amari Peretson’s death, Amari’s parents have been grieving deeply while speaking publicly about their son’s final moments and their heartbreak.

His father, Patrick Peterson, described Amari as “the perfect gift from God” and painfully recounted trying to revive him after the shooting.

Further, he shared the haunting memory of his son’s final moment, saying:

I have an image of my son dying in my head over and over and over and then him smiling and then him walking away. I just keep seeing my son in my head.

Likewise, Amari’s mother, Kim Peterson, voiced the heartbreak, saying:

My baby was innocent. We were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Who would have known my baby wasn’t gonna come home with me?

Amari’s godmother has organized fundraising efforts through Venmo and GoFundMe titled “Help Amari’s Family Through This Tragedy” to cover funeral expenses and honor his memory.

The family has emphasized that no parent should have to bury their child, and they are now focused on keeping Amari’s legacy alive.

Prayers to the Peterson family as they mourn the heartbreaking loss of their beloved son, Amari.
