Woodbury, PA Resident and Beloved Northern Bedford County High School Coach Alan Ross Drenning, 80, Passes Away, Survived by Wife Rose Marie and Two Children

Alan Ross Drenning, a Pennsylvania native and former high school baseball coach, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 8,0, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.

Prior to his death, Alan Ross Drenning underwent a minor procedure on Modany, September 1, 2025, to have a port placed for dialysis and antibiotic treatment so he could be transferred to Encompass.

Alan moved there on Friday evening but had to return to the hospital Saturday morning due to complications, including blood clots in his legs and ongoing issues from a blood infection.

Furthermore, Drenning continued receiving antibiotics for the infection and pneumonia; however, he could not survive.

Born in Waterfall, Pennsylvania, on November 17, 1944, to his late parents, R. Fred and Madeline L. Drenning, Alan Drenning began his athletic journey at a very young age.

He played multiple sports while attending Tussey Mountain High School, from which he graduated in 1962.

A sports enthusiast, Alan joined the Bedford Gazette newsroom as a Sports Editor in the 1970s after graduating from Shippensburg University and Pennsylvania State University.

Alan continued his journey as a sports editor and writer for decades, enjoying the privileges of the Beaver Stadium sideline and press box.

He further began his career as a teacher and coach at Northern Bedford County High School in 1976, serving in this position for 25 years before being elected to the school board.

After over two decades of experience as a coach and educator at Northern Bedford County High School, Alan continued his teaching and coaching career at Snake Spring Valley Christian Academy, where he served in his position for a decade.

He touched the lives of many athletes and students during his 35-year tenure as an educator and coach, leading his baseball team to several victories.

Likewise, after his retirement, Alan Drenning served on the board of the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Broad Top Area Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.

Alan Drenning is Survived by his Longtime Wife, Rose Marie, Two Children, Four Grandchildren, and the Whole Family

The late Alan Drenning was not just a remarkable educator and coach but also a devoted husband to his longtime wife, Rose Marie Drenning.

Tying the knot on August 24, 1972, the couple were happily married for 53 years, raising two successful children, son Jason Drenning of Dallas, Texas, and Erin Drenning of Baltimore.

Alan Drenning often shared pictures of his beloved wife, Rose Marie, his two children, Jason and Erin, and his grandchildren, expressing his love and pride for them.

Furthermore, Alan’s son, Jason Drenning, who earned his PhD in Applied Physiology from the University of Florida in 2008, has been serving as the president of STATinMED in Dallas since 2024.

Prior to that, Jason served as Chief Commercial Officer, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Operations, and Vice President of Business Development at STATinMED. He joined the company in 2020.

Similarly, Jason served as the senior director of Concerto HealthAI and director of strategic accounts at IQVIA.

He also served as the head of operations and director of scientific communications and healthcare analytics at Cardinal Health for nearly five years.

Before joining Cardina Health, Jason Drenning worked as a Clinical Operations Manager at Orthofix, Senior Manager at Wright Medical Technology in Memphis, and Clinical Project Manager at Exactech.

Jason earned his BS and MS in Clinical Physiology from The George Washington University.

Similarly, Alan’s daughter, Erin Drenning, has been serving as the Pro Bono Senior Attorney at Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.

Erin joined Hogan Lovells in 2011 as the communications manager and has been working with the company for over 13 years.

Prior to that, Erin Drenning served as the assistant legal affairs editor at The (MD). Daily Record.

She also served as the Pro Bono Program Staff Attorney at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego in California and as a member of the San Diego County Bar Association’s New Lawyers Division Board of Directors.

Erin earned a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2006 and her B.S. in Journalism from Syracuse Univeristy in 2001.

In addition to his wife and two children, Alan Drenning is survived by his grandchildren, Alexandra and Reid Drenning, and Jackson and Annabeth Blair; his siblings, Audrey Swope, Douglas Drenning, Diana Decker, Ruth Ann Bailey, Cathy Imler, and Rebecca Rodgers; and the entire family.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 7, at 2 p.m. at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Drenning Memorial Fund at Northern Bedford County School District, or to the New Enterprise Chruch of the Brethren.
