Clara Hughes, a celebrated Canadian athlete known for her remarkable cycling and speed skating achievements, has been married to Peter Guzman for over two decades.

Clara won two bronze medals in cycling at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The 53-year-old Olympian also earned four Olympic medals in speed skating, including one gold, one silver, and two bronze.

Hughes made history as the first Canadian woman to medal in Olympic road cycling.

She is also known for her humanitarian efforts, especially her work with the organization Right To Play.

In 2004, Speed Skating Canada named Hughes Female Athlete of the Year, along with numerous other accolades.

Two years later, in 2006, she also earned the International Olympic Committee’s Sport and Community Trophy.

Not to forget, Hughes was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. She was also honored with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Clara Hughes’ Husband, Peter Guzman, Introduced Her to Hiking 26 Years Ago on the John Muir Trail!

Clara married Peter on July 15, 2001, after beginning their life together around 1996.

They exchanged vows, were surrounded by friends, and shared a homemade carrot cake crafted by Clara.

She topped the cake with triple the amount of cream cheese frosting, making it a sweet highlight of the day.

Hughes credits Peter with inspiring her passion for biking and bike camping, an activity she plans to continue for life.

The couple enjoys stealth camping, often choosing to camp for free during their bike tours, and they recently toured Vancouver Island.

Hughes values the freedom and connection with nature that bike camping offers.

Clara often expresses her deep admiration for Peter, also known as WindWalker, who has been her hiking partner and inspiration for nearly three decades.

Peter introduced Clara to hiking 26 years ago on the John Muir Trail. Since then, he has consistently encouraged her to focus on the journey rather than distance or speed.

He taught her to appreciate the connections made with nature, animals, and others and always prioritize the experience’s quality.

Over the years, Peter has hiked some of the most challenging trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail.

Clara remains profoundly grateful for the wisdom he has shared with her and the life lessons he’s imparted.

The couple continues to embark on new adventures and explore new things in their life.
