Jeremy Palmer’s wife, Shannon Palmer, shines as she becomes her family’s anchor during her husband’s cancer battle.

Jeremy Palmer dedicated his life to coaching football and inspiring young athletes across Central Florida.

The 47-year-old former football coach served at Orlando University High School and Celebration High School, where he worked tirelessly to turn around struggling programs and guide his teams toward success.

Palmer brought his passion for the game from his own playing days at Mississippi College and his academic background from Louisiana Tech University.

Born in Bossier City, Louisiana, Palmer faced significant challenges during his coaching tenure.

At Celebration High School, his teams posted a 2-18 record over two seasons, while his single season at Orlando’s University High School ended with a 2-8 record.

Despite these difficult seasons, Palmer remained committed to his players and programs, always fighting for the people he loved and believed in.

Palmer’s life took a devastating turn in November when what should have been routine esophageal testing revealed a malignant tumor.

Doctors discovered seven tumors throughout his body, including one in his esophagus, two in his brain, and others in his liver, diaphragm, and lymph nodes around his stomach.

The diagnosis came just six days after his final game of the season, transforming a routine medical procedure into a life-altering moment.

The cancer battle proved swift and merciless. Palmer underwent brain surgery in December, followed by four months of intensive chemotherapy that caused him to lose 40 pounds, dropping from 252 to 212 pounds.

Despite showing initial signs of improvement in March scans, his condition deteriorated rapidly in the following weeks.

Palmer fought courageously for eight months before succumbing to the disease on Monday (June 9) at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, surrounded by his loving family.

Jeremy Palmer’s Wife, Shannon Palmer, Leads Family Through Darkest Days

Shannon Palmer emerges as the true hero of this heartbreaking story.

Married to Jeremy for 24 years, she transformed from a supportive wife into the family’s primary caregiver and decision-maker when cancer struck their household.

Shannon works as a special education teacher for Osceola County schools, bringing her nurturing spirit and educational expertise to both her professional and personal life.

Shannon’s educational background reflects her commitment to learning and service.

She studied at Mississippi College, the same institution where her husband played football, creating a shared connection to their Louisiana roots.

Her high school years were spent at both Parkway High School and Lakenheath High School, experiences that shaped her resilient character.

She also gained work experience at Bossier Parish Schools and Bellaire Baptist Church before settling into her current role in Florida’s educational system.

When Jeremy received his devastating diagnosis, Shannon immediately stepped into roles she had never imagined filling.

Jeremy had always managed the family’s finances and major decisions, but Shannon discovered the full extent of his declining health when she took over these responsibilities.

She realized Jeremy had likely been experiencing symptoms for at least a year, as evidenced by the disorganized state of their financial affairs.

The family dynamics changed dramatically as Shannon became the primary caregiver for not only her ailing husband but also their three children.

She manages the complex needs of their 22-year-old autistic son Zachery and supports their 20-year-old daughter Sarra, who attends Florida Gulf Coast University.

Their daughter Talia also depends on Shannon’s strength during this difficult period.

Shannon’s strength shines through her determination to maintain stability for her family while watching her husband battle cancer.

She describes the emotional toll of being “the person who has held it together” while trying not to upset her children and supporting Jeremy through his treatments.

Her family has become her rock, providing the foundation she needs to carry everyone else.

Despite the overwhelming challenges, Shannon demonstrates remarkable grace under pressure.

She advocates for Jeremy’s medical care, making difficult decisions about his treatment while respecting his wishes and dignity.

When doctors suggested rushing Jeremy to the emergency room during a recent decline, Shannon stood firm, telling them,

“He’s not ready for that. He’s not ready for me to just rush him over there and us go back to being in the hospital.”

University High principal Thomas Ott proved instrumental in establishing a fundraising link through The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, providing crucial support during their most challenging times.

Shannon acknowledges that finances remain “a stretch” but expresses gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends, colleagues, and the football community.

Throughout Jeremy’s eight-month battle, Shannon witnessed her husband’s transformation from the strong, unshakeable man she had always known to someone fighting for his life.

She describes Jeremy as having always been their family’s rock, someone who never let things get him down.

Watching him struggle emotionally and physically while trying to maintain his strength became one of Shannon’s greatest challenges.

Shannon’s devotion extended through Jeremy’s final moments, ensuring he remained surrounded by family and love.

Her Facebook announcement of Jeremy’s passing reflects her deep faith and unwavering love:

“Cancer is a hard fight and he fought till the lord said it was his time. We are all proud of him. We love him more than anything to the moon and back.”

Even in her grief, Shannon continues to serve others and honor Jeremy’s memory.

She coordinates funeral arrangements and memorial planning while expressing gratitude to everyone who supported their family during the difficult fight against cancer.

Her message emphasizes Jeremy’s love for his community and the mutual affection he shared with those whose lives he touched.

  • He has no memory of approximately 15 days in December when the brain tumors caused swelling and fluid buildup, requiring emergency brain surgery to reduce pressure.
