After four years of enduring the heartbreaking loss of her son, Tate, in the Oxford High School shooting, Sheri Gross Myre passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind her husband, Buck Myre, and children.

Tate Myre was a 16‑year‑old student and football player at Oxford High School who was tragically killed in the November 30, 2021, school shooting.

He was one of four students Tate was one of four students killed when a fellow student opened fire inside the school.

During the Oxford High School shooting in November 2021, he reportedly tried to stop the attacker. But tragically, he was shot and killed.

Son of Sheri and Buck, Tate was a standout football player and wrestler with an excellent academic background, maintaining a 3.85 GPA.

He played for the Oxford Wildcats varsity football team as a running back and middle linebacker (#42).

He was known for his toughness, leadership, and ability to inspire teammates.

His performance drew attention from Michigan State University, showing his potential for college athletics.

Additionally, he also competed in wrestling at a high level, reaching the Michigan High School Athletic Association State Finals.

Sheri Myre, After Four Years of Carrying the Unbearable Grief of Losing Her Son, Tate, Has Now Reunited with Him And His Sister in Eternity!

Sheri was the wife of Buck Myre and the mother of three sons, including Tate. Her identity in the public eye became tied to her advocacy and grief after Tate died in 2021.

Originally from Royal Oak, Michigan, she became a public voice for grieving parents, speaking at court hearings and community events.

Also, she supported initiatives like 42 Strong, the mentorship program created in Tate’s honor.

Tragically, she passed away on December 5, 2025, after a bettle with cancer at the age of 42.

Her death left her husband Buck and surviving children, Trent and Ty, to carry forward the family’s legacy.

Sheri’s extended family also shared heartfelt tributes, saying:

My cousin, Sheri Gross Myre was reunited with her son, Tate, yesterday. Cancer is a horrendous disease. Buck, Trent, and Ty, we love you and are here for you. Love never dies. Her love is a part of you now and you will always carry her light,

Likewise, one of her friends shared a heartfelt message, writing:

Heaven gained one of the very best. Sheri brought so much light, strength, and love into every space she walked into, making everyone feel seen, comforted, and understood… I’m truly honored to have called her my friend and she has left a handprint on my heart that will never fade. I promise to carry on all our hard work with 42 Strong, making sure her personal touch and attention to detail never wavers. I’m going to miss her more than words can express but take comfort in knowing she will spend a beautiful Christmas in heaven with Tate.
