Patric Young is a former professional basketball player who played college basketball for the University of Florida from 2010 to 2014.
Standing at 6’10” (2.08 m), he played as a center and was known for his defensive skills.
During his time at Florida, he was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and was a three-time SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

He lost control of his truck, causing it to flip and leaving him trapped inside the vehicle.
This resulted in severe injuries: the dislocation of his T7 and T8 vertebrae, which left him paralyzed from the waist down.
After undergoing eight hours of surgery and spending weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation, he returned to his home.
He has been undergoing intensive physical therapy and has regained some sensation and movement in his toes.
Young’s journey hasn’t been easy, but he remains motivated and optimistic about his progress.
Moreover, he has focused on inspiring others through motivational speaking.
He also published a book titled “Sit to Rise: Turning Your Darkest Pain Into Your Brightest Victory” in 2023.
In recent days, he has continued to work for the SEC Network as a commentator and started the Patric Young Foundation to raise money for those with spinal cord injuries.

If you can’t afford it, if you don’t have the right insurance, if you don’t have the people that can come in and adjust your bathroom or widen your doors, all those things matter and making a person feel as though they can be free again, And of course, the dream and vision for everyone is to walk again, but if you don’t, you can still live a life without limitations and the foundation, that’s going to be our purpose.

After the accident, his long-time partner and fiancé, Whitney Abbott, was by his side, helping him to stay positive and supporting him emotionally.
She recalled the moment he called her from the accident scene, saying:
He called me and said that he got in an accident, And he kept saying, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. He said he couldn’t feel his legs.

When he got married, he became a father to a stepdaughter named Kyla, a 4th grader who he loves very much.
