Patrina Best Obituary- Best, 38, was a traveling registered nurse and a graduate of Georgia Southern University. Best was found dead inside a home by the police after her boyfriend confessed to strangling her to death.
Best was strangled to death by her boyfriend and football coach of Spalding High, Carl Kearney Jr. A fellow graduate of Georgia Southern University, Carl had previously made it to the New York Jets team but didn’t play a single game.
Coach Carl Kearney Jr, 43, started his coaching career with Griffin High and later coached in Florida between the 2013 and 2015 seasons. He was named the head coach at Griffin in 2016 before he became head coach at Spalding High in 2020.
The football coach handed himself to the authorities on Saturday after he walked into the Division V Clinton Police Station and confessed to strangling Best inside a home.

Patrina Best, 38, was a native of Accokeek, Maryland. She was currently living in Atlanta, Georgia. A highly motivated individual, Best worked in the medical field.
Best graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Kinesiology and Exercise Science degree in 2008. At Georgia Southern University, Best was part of the swimming and diving team and student-athlete association.
After graduation, Patrina began working as an exercise physiologist at Satilla Regional Medical Center. She worked there for two years before moving to Washington D.C. to become an exercise physiologist.
In 2014, Best enrolled at ECPI University and made it her goal to become a registered nurse. She did so in 2016. After becoming a registered nurse, Patrina joined Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center.
In 2017, she joined Inova Health System, and since 2020, Patrina worked as a travel registered nurse. Patrina has worked for Winchester Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, Wellstar Health System, and PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Condolences Pour In For Patrina
Patrina’s body was found inside a home in the 800 block of St.James Court. The officers pronounced her dead at the scene.
One of her close friends, Emily Smalley Home, shared an emotional tribute on her Facebook page. Emily wrote, ” Patrina and I shared a room at Georgia Southern almost 20 years ago. It seems like yesterday that we were complaining about swim practice, watching trash TV, and then heading to Taco Bell together.
Life was definitely better with Patrina in it. She was the first person we asked to be at our wedding, and when it was over, she sent me pictures of herself with every horse statute in Germantown.”
Emily further wrote that though they had drifted apart, she enjoyed Patrina traveling worldwide. Emily was also close to Patrina’s family and said how proud Patrina’s family were of her becoming a nurse.
At the end of her post, Emily wrote, “She made the best out of life, and I am beyond heartbroken for her family and friends. Rest in Peace, Patrina, the world lost an amazing woman.”
Carl Kearney Jr Is A Former Football Player
The Spalding High varsity football coach, Carl Kearney Jr, was a football player at Georgia Southern University. He was signed by the New York Jets but didn’t play a single game for them.
After bidding goodbye to his dreams of becoming a professional football player, Carl focused on his coaching career.
In 2012, he graduated with a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University, and the same year he accepted the role of coach at Apopka High School.
He joined Griffin Spalding Country School in 2016 and became their football coach in 2020. The Spalding Football’s YouTube Channel had previously shared an interview with Carl in 2021.
Only two days before murdering Patrina, Carl was active on his Facebook handle and had been sharing posts related to high school sports.
