Phil Booth | Early Life & Parents
Starting with the fundamental information, Phil was born on December 31, 1995, to his parents, Phil Sr and Robin Booth.
He is not only the kid in the family as he grew up alongside two sisters whose names are not revealed yet on the internet.
It was not one-night magic that turned Phil into a basketball star. It took nights and days and, for obvious reasons, years of guidance and nurturing.
Since he was seven, his father, Phil Booth Sr, taught him about the right play; how to be unselfish, how to be a good teammate, master the game, and lead.
Well, not only that, the senior Booth made sure that his son got enrolled in AAU programs as a very young player.
Similarly, he would drop him off at the field to grip his own pickup games against older boys.
As a father, he didn’t know whether he would develop his son as a fulfilling player, but he never skipped a chance to give his best.
Booth visited a camp in Maryland when he was about ten years old, and he was selected as MVP.
However, things were not smooth and sailing always; Booth, along with his team, lost the championship after a year of competing at Villanova to an overnight camp.
Booth was crying and cheering and doing everything that could boost up his team. His parents also made him present at Villanova to watch him grow.
Also, the scenario gave them a subtle yet basic realization that Booth loves the game.
His father, Senior Phil Booth
And, if you must be wondering how come Phil Booth Sr. is well-acquainted with the game itself, then here is the brief, he grew up in Philadelphia and got featured in basketball at Northeast High and Coppin State.
To remain specific, he was a swingman, but he did not get the same opportunity as his son did.
The elder Booth was lightly recruited and was not wanting his son to stay at the same level.
Instead, he showed up for Ron “Fang” Mitchell for a season at Gloucester Country College.
Booth then followed the coach to Coppin State in Baltimore, intending to show what a powerhouse would seem like in the 1980s and 1990s, a powerhouse made on an Interstate-95 pipeline from Philadelphia.
To add on, Sr. Booth used to play along with Derrick Orr from Mastbaum, Will Crandell from Southern, Otto Barbour from Lincoln, Reggie Issac from Bartram, and Larry Stewart from Dobbins.
Likewise, he made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 1990 at the height of a season that had an upset win on the road at Maryland.
Talking about his mother, nothing much has been revealed, but she was an athlete too. Robin Smooth used to play at Bowie State.

Phil Booth | High School Career
Writing about his bio and not mentioning his high school story would be regrettable. So, here it is.
Booth got enrolled at Mount Saint Joseph in Baltimore and played high school basketball there.
Phil was not forced to go over something which he did not want to. He had his pick of schools and was open to going anywhere. Joining Josephs was not a bad decision at all.
It was the best place for him to develop himself as a player. Phil was a part of a good team playing with good older guys.
Also, he knew that he would play behind great guys and learn a lot from them. And, we must say, he used his technique pretty much well.
Phil grabbed the 2013-14 Baltimore Prep Player of the Year and was also the first-team All-Catholic League selection. He also made the record for most points at his high school.
The starting point guard, Ryan Arcidiacono, regarded him as special and one of the best guards there.
Arcidiacono also tagged him as a smart, overall player who knows what the coach wants.
Phil Booth | College Stats and Career
As soon as Phil came out of high school, Phil joined Villanova during the 2014-15 season and was all set to give his best potential for the team, Villanova Wildcats.
As a freshman, he managed to grab the Philadelphia Big Five rookie of the year at the end of the season. This clearly states that he instantly showed off his talent.
By the time Phil stepped into his sophomore year, he had impeccably made his mark for the 2015-16 season.
Likewise, he notched a team-high 20 points in the National Championship Game.
He hit two free throws with 35 seconds left in the game and also scored 7.0 points per game that season.
Well, the junior year did not turn out to be so good for him. Phil was forced to redshirt due to his unbearable knee pain and was only allowed to play three games.
Just not the lingering knee pain; more injuries were on their way to make things harder.
Phil fractured his right hand in a play against Providence Friars Men’s Basketball Team on January 23, 2018.
This Maryland native made a comeback on February 21 when his squad won against DePaul Blue Demons men’s basketball, a 93-62 victory. He scored 14 points off the bench.
In the junior redshirt, Phil was again a part of the National Championship Game in 2018, where he won with Villanova for the second time in his collegiate career.
His playful caliber was quite harmed for a year because of that injury. Thus, he shot less and stood as a starter most of the time.
Phil averaged 18.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game moving onto his senior year.
Leaving a mark at Villanova with the finest Leadership skills
Not mentioning this would be illegitimate, but Phil was the ninth player in Villanova history to complete his career with 1500 points and 300 assists. He also played in a school-record 148 games.
Phil had his own ups and downs while spending five seasons at Villanova, but he managed to become a fan-favorite real soon by taking part in the national championship game two times in 2016 and 2018.
Though in 2018, he was benched off the year in the middle with a lingering knee injury.
The audience, who were his fans, could not stop yelling “Booooth!” in Finneran Pavilion when he performed on the court. He portrayed a great compilation of leadership and competitiveness on and off the court.
Phil also teamed up with Eric Paschall to guide their younger teammates. Villanova coach Jay Wright also spoke a few good words in his favor.
Wright regarded him as an infrequent player who was well-liked.
Wright said of Booth, “He was a complete package of competitiveness and toughness.”
Not only that, but Phil also knew how to keep his personal and professional life different. He was great friends with Daniel Ochefu when he was a freshman.
But it was the weirdest thing how they turned out into real opponents on the court.
He was one of those special players who was liked and appreciated when he did not hold any Captain titles.
Wright also confronted,
“Phil had the ability to do everything; he led the team emotionally and psychologically. He would pass the ball to everybody and still manage to be the leading scorer of the game.”
Phil literally nailed being a Villanova basketball player and knew every minor detail of what is important and considerate as a teammate.
Phil Booth | Professional Career
No doubt he is coming out of high school; he had an excellent experience of the five-year journey, a crazy ride though, full of ups and downs, the titles, the championship, the winning, and the injuries; everything was worth it.
If there are highs, there are lows as well. After a magnificent career at Villanova, things did not go the same. Further, luck did not favor him enough in getting drafted.
Phil went undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft and joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2019 NBA Summer League.
As there was a place in the league for thoughtful players like Booth.
Following that, he agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Washington Wizards on July 26, 2019, but was waived soon. The same year, he also grabbed Robert V. Geasey Trophy.
However, Phil hoped that his time, experience, and refinement at Villanova wouldn’t go in vain and soon lead him to a productive NBA Career.
He had a small handful of team names that he worked hard for, such as Lakers, Pistons, Timberwolves, Cavaliers, Hawks, Mavericks, Pacers, Celtics, Knicks, and Sixers.
All in, Phil was waiting for a team to give him just one shot to prove himself. He also followed all the advice and was alerted by his coaches and former teammates.
Bring, here again; coach Jay Wright always demanded so much of him.
According to Booth,
“Wright pushes you to the best -layer you can be, not just offensively but defensively.”
Booth then added,
“He makes you work on all aspects of the game; no matter what position the situation needs, whether it’s defense or shooting, you have to become an all-rounder.”
Capital City Go-Go (2019–2020)
Well, all his hard work and blessings must have come along their way as Phil was appointed to the roster of the Capital City Go-Go.
He was placed against Fort Wayne Mad Ants on January 4, 2020, which turned out to be a loss, unfortunately, but he scored 22 points and four rebounds.
Oklahoma City Blue (2021–present)
