Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay Jr. and his parents, Darius Slay Sr. and Stephanie Lowe, had a significantly shorter age gap. Despite the early adversities, Lowe raised her only child with great care and help from her mom, Dorothy Walthour.
Slay Jr., 34, has been with the Eagles side since 2020, but he might switch teams in the offseason.
There are reports that the Eagle’s NFC Championship game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday might be Slay Jr’s last game in Philly.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Ashlyn Sullivan, Darius Slay could be preparing for his last home game in Lincoln Financial Field.
The reporter shared the information received from the player that he is leaning towards playing one more season at the highest level, but it won’t be with the Eagles.
Since joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, Slay has become a star cornerback and has achieved three of his six Pro Bowl selections as an Eagle.
In the past four seasons, Slay has recorded 223 tackles, nine interceptions, and 43 passes defended in the regular season.
This year, the cornerback failed to record an interception, the first time since his rookie year as rookie Quinyon Mitchell has emerged as the Eagel’s next No.1 star.
Nevertheless, Darius Slay would want to leave the Eagles with a Super Bowl title to his name.
Darius Slay Jr. Thanks His Mother And Grandmother For Raising Him
Darius Slay Jr’s parents, Slay Sr. and Stephanie Lowe, had him at an incredibly young age, which makes many say, “Really?”
In an interview with The DB Room in 2020, Slay said his mother had him at 13 and that he is his mother’s only child.
The cornerback said, “My mom had me at 13 years old. I don’t know what she was thinking. We overcame, and my mom taught me everything.”
Stephanie was one of the few lucky ones whose family supported her through childbirth.
Her mother, and Darius’ grandmother, Dorothy Walthour, took up the responsibility of raising the future NFL star.
As Stephanie worked on graduating high school, Dorothy took care of Darius.
Even in his DB Room interview, the NFL star says he has always been a “Grandma’s Boy.”
Slay also adds that his grandma has always been his heart and joy and calls Dorothy his soulmate.
The NFL star has never discussed his dad much during his interviews. But he previously mentioned that his father has 11 kids.
So, Darius Slay Sr. was never a one-family man and had to handle the responsibilities of multiple kids, making it difficult for Slay Jr. to have a proper connection with him.
Previously, in an interview with The Detroit News, Slay said:
She’s a superwoman; I call her that. She’s my idol. As a motivation right now, I’m just giving her the world that she deserves. I’m glad I’ve been abel to do that for her.

The NFL star also added that he looks up to his mom as a big sister due to their small age gap and that she had taught him things that a man hadn’t taught him.
NFL Star Darius Slay Jr. Had His First Child At 15
Darius Slay never thought, like his parents, that he would become a parent in his teenage years. But it happened.
At first, Darius didn’t dare tell his mom he was about to repeat the cycle. He only told her he was about to become a dad when his girlfriend was six months pregnant.
After telling her the news, the footballer also told he was to drop out of school to find a job and raise his child.
Stephanie told him not to worry about finding a job and that he should rather focus on finishing school.
He did as his mom told and soon Darius started getting scholarship offers from various schools for his football talent.
Darius’ former girlfriend gave birth to their first child, Darion Slay, in 2006.
In May 2022, Darius shared a video of him hugging his son, and wishing him a happy 15th birthday.
The NFL star has another son from a different woman. His second child, Demetrius Darius Slay, was born in 2015.
In his interview with The Detroit Free Press, Darius said Demetrius usually lives with his mom in Mississippi.
The former Detroit Lions player said his mom gets upset at him because she believes he has an I-don’t-care attitude.
The football player told her that the only thing that can affect him is his kids.
Despite having two failed relationships, Darius finally found love with model Jennifer Slay.
The two tied the knot in 2018 and have a daughter named Desirae Slay, born in 2017.
The two also have another child, a baby boy named Desmond, for whom Darius shared a birthday post in October 2024 for his third birthday.
