Kumar Rocker’s father, Tracy Rocker, played in the NFL and is a College Football Hall of Famer from Auburn University.
On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Texas Ranger Kumar Rocker earned his first career win after defeating the Los Angeles Angels with a 5-3 score in Arlington, Texas.
Kumar, the former No. 3 overall draft pick, allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings to improve to 1-2 on the season for Texas. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk while throwing just 78 pitches.
Texas Rangers selected Rocker in the first round, with the third overall selection, reuniting him with his former Vanderbilt teammate Jack Leiter.
On July 26, 2022, he signed with Texas for a $5.2 million signing bonus.
Rockers didn’t appear in a game after signing, instead working out at the Rangers’ spring training facility.
On September 12, 2024, the Rangers selected Rocker’s contract and promoted him to make his major league debut that night against the Seattle Mariners. He made the Rangers’ Opening Day roster from spring training in 2025.
Kumar Rocker’s MLB Debut Was The Dream-Come-True Moment For His Parents
Although Kumar Rocker, 25, was born in Georgia, United States, his father, Tracy Rocker, is originally from Africa, and his mother, Lalitha, is from India.
Kumar’s parents met when his mother was a student at the University of Maryland, and his father was playing for the Washington Redskins.
His father, Tracy, 59, was born in 1966 and grew up with his brother David Rocker, an American former football player and coach.
Tracy is an American football coach and former player who currently coaches the defensive line for the Tennessee Titans of the NFL.
The National Football Foundation inducted him into the College Football Hall of Fame in December 2004.
He was a member of the Auburn staff that won the 2011 BCS National Championship Game. He has been a source of support and guidance for his baseball journey.
On the other hand, Kumar’s mother, Lalitha, is an educator and instructional designer. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Andhra Pradesh, India, in 1965.
Tracy and Lalitha have supported Kumar since childhood.
Kumar’s parents were in the stands to support him during his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers on September 12, 2024.
With his parents watching from the stands, he endured a shaky start, giving up a single to Victor Robles on the first pitch of his career and a dribbling single to Julio Rodriguez.
However, he allowed three hits and walked two with seven strikeouts.
Following the match, Lalitha stated they were in shock and that it was their dream-come-true moment. She added on the Rangers’ TV broadcast,
“It’s been an incredible journey,” “And he’s just come out just fighting, putting his head down, and just working hard.”
