LATROBE, PA: A crowd of Pittsburgh Steelers fans hoping to snag an autograph from tight end Pat Freiermuth got a little too close for comfort during a recent training camp session at Saint Vincent College, and the scene quickly turned tense.
Fans Push and Shove Near the Rope Line
According to video circulating online, a group of supporters gathered along the rope line after practice wrapped up, all trying to get Freiermuth’s signature before he headed off the field.
As the crowd pressed forward, pushing and shoving broke out among fans jockeying for position. In the middle of it all was a young child, who appeared to be at risk of getting caught in the scuffle.
That is when Freiermuth stepped away from signing to physically pull the kid to safety, lifting him over the rope and out of harm’s way before turning his attention back to the situation.
Fans online have praised the tight end for noticing the child and acting quickly, with many calling it the best part of the clip.
Watt Reportedly Steps In to Calm Things Down
Linebacker TJ Watt, who was also on the practice field that day, is said to have gotten involved as well, helping separate fans and calm the situation before it escalated further.
While Watt was not the one signing autographs at the time, his presence near the incident led several fans commenting on the viral post to credit him with helping break things up.
The clip, first shared on Instagram by user Telebo10 and later reposted by the Football Forever page, has racked up thousands of views and sparked plenty of conversation in the comments.
Some fans joked about the intensity of the crowd for a tight end, while others questioned how camp organizers handle fan behavior along the rope line during open practices.
Training camp sessions often draw large crowds eager to catch a glimpse of players up close, and moments like autograph signings can turn chaotic quickly when fans feel like their chance is slipping away. Incidents like this one are a reminder for teams to consider extra precautions when it comes to crowd control, especially when kids are present near the action.
As of now, neither the Steelers organization nor Freiermuth has issued an official comment on the incident, but the video continues to make the rounds on social media as fans debate what should change before the next home practice session.
