Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley began their relationship around 2015, after meeting through the spoken word poetry community.

Andrea Gibson, born August 13, 1975, was a celebrated American spoken-word poet, activist, and advocate for LGBTQ+ and social justice.

Raised in a Baptist household, Gibson was a standout athlete during their time at Calais High School in Maine, where they played a key role on the girls’ basketball team.

In 1993, Gibson helped lead the team to victory in the Class C East championship, ultimately securing the Class C state title that year.

Their performance throughout the tournament earned them a spot on the prestigious Bangor Daily News All-Tourney First Team for Class C, recognizing them as one of the top five players in their division statewide.

This honor placed Gibson alongside other elite athletes in Maine and confirmed their reputation as a top-performing high school basketball player.

Tragically, Gibson passed away on July 14, 2025, at the age of 49, at their home in Boulder, Colorado, surrounded by loved ones, including their wife Megan Falley.

Their death was the culmination of a four-year battle with terminal ovarian cancer, first diagnosed in August 2021, with recurrences in 2022 and again in 2023
