Grant High School alumnus Coty Daniel Atwood is reportedly on life support with a slim chance of recovery after he came across a car accident on September 22, 2025.
Coty Daniel Atwood, a young football player, is fighting for his life after a serious accident.
Following his accident, his mother, Rachel Atwood, updated her profile picture to one featuring him. Likewise, his brother, Kevin Andrew Atwood, updated his Facebook profile and cover picture.
Rumors about his demise began circulating online, saying he was on life support due to being an organ donor; however, his uncle, Jeremiah Corrigan, stepped in to clarify his situation.
He shared the news, asking for prayers during this difficult time. As of now, Coty remains on life support, and his family holds on to a small but real hope for recovery.
It started like any other day for the Atwood family, when a phone call shattered the calm. Coty, a beloved nephew, son, and friend, had been in a serious accident.
However, the precise details surrounding his accident on September 22, 2025, remain unknown at this time.
It was on September 23, 2025, when the family received word that Coty had been badly hurt.
Later that day, a call came saying he had passed away and was being kept on life support to allow for organ donation.
This news spread quickly on Facebook, where friends and loved ones began posting messages of grief.
In fact, his uncle Jeremiah called his own children to tell them before they saw the posts online, and it was a painful moment for everyone.
Family members drove from Indiana to be together. They gathered with nieces and nephews, offering comfort to one another.
The group tried to give Coty’s mother some quiet space amid the sorrow. The day was filled with shared memories and quiet strength.
Then, at midnight, another call changed everything. Different doctors arrived and shared that it was not over. There is still a slim chance, but Coty may be able to pull through.

Jeremiah revealed that he didn’t have many details at that point, but the words brought a spark of hope after hours of deep sadness.
He wrote about his mixed feelings in his post, saying he felt sorry for the pain caused by the early news of loss.
Likewise, he is embarrassed that the information was not clear from the start. A bit of anger lingers because the family grieved all day without the full picture. He said:
Emotions are all over the place, I’m not sure how to feel right now. First of all I’m sorry, second I’m embarrassed, third a bit angry that we were all grieving all day without the proper information but most of all I’m feeling a tiny bit of hope.
Jeremiah Corrigan
Yet, above all, there is that tiny bit of hope growing inside him.
Jeremiah concluded the post, asking for forgiveness, writing:
I am so very sorry for all the premature grief this has caused everyone. Keep fighting with everything you’ve got Coty.
Jeremiah Corrigan
Coty is described as a fighter, and his uncle urged him to keep going with all his strength.
During this difficult time, we pray for his speedy recovery.
