Rodrick “Rod” Sparks was a standout football player and cherished member of the Texas Lutheran University community.
He graduated in 2014 after four impactful years on the team.
A four-year letterman, Rod played both Offensive and Defensive Line, earning respect as a fierce competitor and devoted teammate.
Initially choosing TLU over Howard Payne, his decision led to a meaningful coaching relationship and lifelong bonds.
Known for his radiant smile and magnetic personality, Rod was more than an athlete; he was a blessing to everyone he met.
Rod’s unexpected passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew him.
TLU Football Alumni shared their heartfelt sorrow over Rodrick Sparks’ passing, stating:
It’s with a heavy heart that we share the passing of one of our own, Rodrick “Rod” Sparks.
Rod passed away yesterday, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
Rodrick was a four-year letterman and a 2014 graduate of TLU. During his time here, he played on both the Offensive and Defensive Line, leaving his mark as a true competitor and teammate.
Rod will always be remembered for his larger-than-life personality — a gentle giant whose spirit and laughter filled every room he entered.
Rest in peace, Rod. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Likewise, his former coach described Rodrick as a great football player, saying:
Rod was a special young man and a great football player. He broke my heart when he committed to TLU over Howard Payne (where I was coaching at the time). Had no idea I would have the blessing of coaching him at TLU, along with so many other great players and coaches. He was a blessing to everyone he met and his smile and personality would light up a room! Rest in the Everlasting arms of the Father.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at New Life Church of Texas.
