The tragedy occurred around 1:51 a.m. on May 11 in the bustling area of Vernon Place and New Haven Avenue, near the recently refurbished Neon Rodeo bar and other lively nightspots.
Melbourne police responded to reports of gunfire and found Nate unresponsive, the victim of a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of officers and Melbourne Fire Rescue, Nate could not be saved.
The incident, captured on newly installed downtown surveillance cameras, sent shockwaves through the community.
The suspected shooter, Stephan Dieujuste, 24, also from Palm Bay, was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter. Dieujuste, a former point guard for Eastern Florida State College, claimed self-defense, but after a thorough investigation, Melbourne police established probable cause for his arrest.
He was booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes and is scheduled for a bond hearing.
