Daniel S. Hurley, head coach of the University of Connecticut (UConn), married his wife, Andrea Hurley, on August 29, 1997, in New Jersey, marking over 25 years of togetherness.
Born on January 16, 1973, Hurley started his career as head coach of Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School in 2001.
Before his tenure at UConn, he held head coaching positions at Rhode Island and Wagner College.
Hurley guided UConn to consecutive NCAA Division I National Championships in 2023 and 2024.
Andrea Hurley Has Been a Steadfast Supporter Throughout Dan’s Coaching Career
Andrea Sirakides was born on December 11, 1976, in Toms River, New Jersey.
She is the daughter of Ken Sirakides (father) and Patti Klotz Sirakides (mother).
Unfortunately, her father passed away on August 16, 2005. Patti’s mother worked as a radiation therapist at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
By profession, she is a podcaster who co-hosts “Ball is Wife” with Nicole Kellogg, the wife of UMass coach Derek Kellogg.
Andrea is often seen accompanying her husband, Dan, to games and media appearances.
Although Andrea openly admits having zero interest in the game, she remains Dan’s biggest supporter.
She has appeared alongside him on platforms such as ‘Good Morning America,’ discussing their life together and the dynamics of balancing family with the demands of college basketball.
Andrea has also grown deeply attached to the players who join the UConn team, often treating them like family.
She not only cheers for UConn and Dan in her own way but also acts as a second mother to the team’s players, going as far as baking cupcakes for their birthdays.
Andrea told WTNH that she finds it rewarding to help her partner improve and that she sees that effort come back to her.
In 2024, when the Los Angeles Lakers approached Dan with a substantial coaching offer, Andrea’s reaction was notably strong.
She initially opposed the idea of relocating, expressing her feelings candidly.
However, after visiting Los Angeles and meeting with the Lakers’ organization, she became more open to the possibility.
Ultimately, the Hurleys chose to remain at UConn, valuing the community and culture they had established there.
Regarding how they met, Andrea was a student at Seton Hall University when she first met Dan. At the time, she had no idea he came from a renowned basketball family.
Dan told WTNH in March 2023,
She added,
The couple is also philanthropists and always working for community welfare.
They recently spent time at the Connecticut Children’s Foundation with the UConn team, where they met patients suffering from thalassemia, a life-threatening blood disorder.
Andrea even posted a photo of her hugging a patient, Daniela, on her Instagram story with the caption, “Had so much fun with this little peanut and UCONN MBB today.“
The Couple Are Proud Parents of Two Children
Dan and Andrea have two sons, Danny Hurley, born in 1999, and their second son, Andrew Hurley, who was born in 2002.
Their sons have followed in Dan’s footsteps. Danny graduated from Seton Hall, his father’s alma mater, in 2021 with a degree in history and now works in government.
He works as an aide to the governor in New Jersey and as a legislative aide to Senate President Scutari, per his LinkedIn profile.
On the other hand, Andrew plays basketball at UConn under Dan’s coaching. He, now part of UConn’s championship-winning team, shares a special bond with his father, both on and off the court.
Both Danny and Andrew grew up with their father coaching them, with Dan cherishing the opportunity to guide them during their formative years.
