J.J. Spaun, a talented professional golfer, owes much of his success to his supportive parents, John Michael Spaun Sr. and Dollie Spaun.

Spaun was born on August 21, 1990, in Los Angeles, California; J.J. grew up in San Dimas, where his parents encouraged his love for golf from a very young age.

J.J.’s father, John Spaun Sr., played a big role in getting him into golf.

He balanced his career with being a hands-on dad. When J.J. was three years old, John gave him a set of plastic golf clubs and a makeshift hitting net in their garage.

John never signed J.J. up for formal golf lessons. Instead, he let J.J. learn by watching and trying things for himself.

John said that becoming a professional golfer was “a dream come true” for J.J. He always believed in his son and supported him every step.

J.J.’s mother, Dollie, was also very important in his golf journey.

She was a golfer and even played golf when she was eight months pregnant with J.J. People often told her that her son would be a golfer when he grew up.

In a 2018 interview, Dollie shared how young J.J. loved watching golf on TV.

“He was born to play golf, He used to watch TV as a little kid and he’d tell me “Mom, I don’t want to watch cartoons. I want to watch Golf Channel.”

Now retired, John still closely follows J.J.’s career.

Dollie graduated from Belmont Senior High School in 1979 and worked as an office manager.

She continues to love golf, which has always greatly influenced J.J.’s life.
