American professional golfer Jay Sigel lived with his wife, Betty, in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.
Jay Sigel, one of the most incredible amateurs in golf history, passed away on April 19, 2025, at the age of 81.
The USGA confirmed his death, related to pancreatic cancer.
Central Michigan University graduate Steven Harris took to his Facebook handle and mourned the loss of Jay Sigel. He wrote,

Born and raised in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Sigel won 10 state amateurs, four state opens, and three times each in the Porter Cup, Sunnehanna Amateur, and Northeast Amateur.
He also competed at the Masters for 11 consecutive years, from 1978 to 1988, making four cuts and earning low amateur honors three times.
Sigel was also a low amateur in the 1984 U.S. Open and the 1980 Open Championship.
Upon turning professional late in his career. He captured eight victories on the PGA Tour Champions and was the 1994 Rookie of the Year.
Jay Sigel And Betty Were Married For Over 57 Years
American professional golfer Jay Sigel married Elizabeth Wingo Sigel, aka Betty, in 1968 after dating for several years.
Betty was born to her father, Earl Wave Wingo, and her mother, Frances Taylor Wingo. She grew up with her brother Thomas Earl “Tom” Wingo, who sadly passed away on June 30, 2018, at 63.
Her father, Earl Wave, tragically passed away on May 7, 2001, in Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, and her mother, Frances, passed away in 1984.
Although Betty has avoided the media spotlight, she always supported Jay’s golf ambitions and understood his passion for the game.
In 2022, Jay Sigel and his wife, Betty, attended the 30th annual Jay Sigel Invitational, a premier charity golf tournament in the Delaware Valley.
They enjoyed golf at the prestigious Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square.
Sadly, Betty and Jay’s married life ended after 57 years following the tragic death of Jay Sigel.

Jay and Betty lived in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, with their three daughters, Jennifer, Amy, and Megan Sigel. They also had five grandchildren.
Amy tied the knot with Alex P. Melconian and welcomed a son named Jackson Alexander.
Alex’s mother, Vahe G Melconian of Downingtown, took her last breath on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 77 in Paoli Memorial Hospital.
On the other hand, Amy’s sisters, Jennifer and Megan, have avoided social media, so little is known about their personal lives.
However, they are mourning the tragic death of their supportive and devoted father, Jay Sigel.

- Jay Sigel attended Lower Merion High School in Lower Merion, Pennsylvania. From there, he moved on to the University of Houston for a semester before transferring to Wake Forest University, where she was a member of the golf team.
