She was born in Shiyan City, but it is important to note that her mother is an authentic Chengdu native.
Before she went to kindergarten when she was over 2 years old, she spent a lot of time at her maternal grandmother’s house in Chengdu.
Zheng picked up the racket for the first time when she was seven, and she was already the best player among people her own age in her hometown.
Her father, realizing her potential, took her to Wuhan to show off her talents in front of a larger audience and an advanced coach. However, he did not mention to her that he would be leaving her at Wuhan to train.

Meet Qinwen Zheng’s New Coach Wim Fissette
Zheng’s new coach, Wim Fissette, is a tennis instructor and former professional player who has collaborated with many WTA world champions.
As a professional player, he reached a career-high singles ranking of 1,291 on 23 August 1999.
In early 2023, Zheng’s management team reached out to Wim to take over coaching duties for her team.
He only agreed after he saw an explosive, athletic player but a young woman who still seemed fairly raw.
Zim claims this is “A really interesting project where you can, like, really build the player.” It is still early, and they are still getting to know one another and gaining each other’s trust.
Fissette stated that the work is a little more difficult with Zheng since her parents speak minimal English. This has made learning more about what makes Zheng tick a little more difficult.
