The Jacksonville Jaguars had been the only team without a win while heading into week 5, which made them desperate for a win.

With the divisional matchup with the Colts, the Jaguars were under tremendous pressure to keep their season afloat having started the season with four consecutive losses.

Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports reported that Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Wide Receiver Gabe Davis had a verbal dispute, a small altercation on the sidelines during their game with the Indianapolis Colts.

The dispute managed to stay only verbal, as, other Jaguar players kept Davis from escalating a subsequent confrontation with Lawrence.

The match ended in the Jaguars victory with a score of 37-34.

After the game, Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked about throwing a tablet, to which he replied,

“I sat it down, Firmly”, and when pressed to clarify his spat with Davis he said,

“That happens in this game, People that have played it know. People that haven’t probably don’t really understand all the emotions that go into it. There was some frustration and we had a little back-and-forth, and cleared it up. That’s all it is. Stuff like that’s important. And I love when stuff like that happens. You confront issues, and if I’m pissed about something, he’s pissed about something, let’s talk about it and move on. And we did a great job of that. Gabe’s always good at communicating, so we got on the same page quick, and it was good.”

“If I’m pissed about something, he’s pissed about something, let’s talk about it and move on. And we did a great job of that. Gabe is always good at communicating, so got on the page quick, and it was good”, Lawrence added.

According to Andrew Joseph of For the Win USA Today, mentions that the altercation was led by a third-down one in the first half.

“In the first half against the Colts, Davis was wide open on third down, but Lawrence checked down short of the sticks. Evidently, that led to a furious exchange between the two players on the sidelines. According to the broadcast, both Lawrence and Davis had to be separated by teammates.”

Davis signed a three-year $39 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason as one of the team’s major additions after his four-year career with the Bills.

Lawrence also signed a five-year $275 million contract extension this off-season.

Fortunately, the altercation between these big-time players, did not impact the game, but rather translated it into a victory with Davis doing three catches for 38 yards and Lawrence throwing for a season-high 371 yards and two touchdowns, including an 85-yard bomb to rookie Brian Thomas Jr., to help lead the AFC South victory.

Eventually improving the team chemistry!

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • The game broadcast never aired the footage of the sideline spat.
  • The Jaguars have their next game for Week 7 in London, where they have a huge fanbase.
  • As reported by Marca.com, historically, only one team – the 1992 San Diego Chargers – has ever reached the playoffs after starting the season with four consecutive losses.
