Reed Ryan Obituary: He is survived by his parents, Erin and Stephanie, his sister, Robyn, his brother Chase, and many close family, friends, and loved ones.

Born on December 27, 2000, Reed tragically passed away at the young age of 22 on November 28, 2023.

He was a beloved son, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Reed Ryan, a 2019 graduate from Waunakee High School, was a two-time all-region and all-area defensive end.

As a four-year wrestling starter, he recorded over 100 career wins and also participated in track and field.

Following high school, Ryan committed to playing collegiate football at North Dakota State University but redshirted in 2019.

After playing in eight games as a defensive end for the Bisons, he transferred to the University of Minnesota Duluth.

During his time with the Bulldogs, Ryan played in nine games. He recorded seven solo tackles and one assisted tackle, totaling eight tackles overall.

The senior defensive lineman Reed Ryan passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Essentia Health in Duluth, Minn., at the age of 22.

Reed went into cardiac arrest on November 21 following a football team workout in the weight room.

Immediately after, he was taken to Essentia Health, where he remained throughout the week.

Unfortunately, Ryan passed away around midnight Tuesday night.

As a crucial part of the Bulldog defensive unit, Ryan contributed to a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) low average of 293.9 yards per game.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Ryan attended UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics. He pursued a double major in Marketing and Professional Sales.

UMD head football coach Curt Wiese expressed deep sorrow in a statement, saying,

“We were fortunate to have Reed on our team, and he made our program, our department, and our community a better place in a short period of time.”

Funeral Details

Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Blackhawk Church, located at 9620 Brader Way, Middleton.

Moreover, visitation at the church will take place on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and again on Saturday, starting at 10:00 am and continuing until the time of the service.

Reed Ryan was born to parents Erin and Stephanie Ryan in Waunakee, Wisconsin. His father, Erin, played as a fullback from 1989-90 at Wisconsin.

Furthermore, he grew up with a sister, Robyn, and a brother, Chase.
