Matt Darr’s father, Loyal Darr, was connected to Regis Jesuit High School, where his son served as the Head Baseball Coach and a physical education teacher.

Matt Darr is the head coach of the Regis Jesuit High School varsity baseball team.

Under his leadership, the team has had remarkable success, including finishing as 5A State Runners-Up in the 2023-24 season with a 22-8 record.

His coaching has earned him recognition, as he was previously selected as a finalist for the National Coach of the Year award.

Recently, the Regis Jesuit baseball team has faced significant emotional challenges, including the loss of Coach Darr’s father.

Matt Darr’s father, Loyal Darr, was a physical teacher and a respected figure in the field of education.

While he was primarily known for his contributions to teaching and curriculum development, his influence extended beyond the classroom.

In 2018, he was inducted into the Illinois State University College of Education Hall of Fame for his dedication to empowering students.

His career spanned six decades across nine different countries, where he worked to improve education and promote social change.

He played a key role in integrating Denver Public Schools‘ social studies curriculum in the 1960s.

Beyond his classroom influence, he was recognized for his several humanitarian works, earning him several awards.

In 1993, he was recognized with the Beth Joseph Congregation Humanitarian Award.

Moreover, he was the first educator to receive the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award in 1994.

Tragically, Loyal Darr passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 87. He was deeply connected to Regis Jesuit High School, where his son, Matt, serves as the Head Baseball Coach.

Also, he was the grandfather of Addison (Class of 2024) and Isaiah (Class of 2026), along with younger siblings Elijah and Joshua.

His passing has deeply affected the Regis Jesuit community, which has come together in support and remembrance.

The baseball team has faced multiple tragedies recently, including the loss of Coach Darr’s father.
