Remembering Former Tennis Player Peter Kuchar Through The Eyes of His Wife, Meg

Peter Kuchar, a life insurance salesman and college tennis pro, was the father of professional golfer Matt Kuchar, who passed away on February 5, 2025.

Peter was married to Meg Kuchar (Margaret Wright Kuchar) for 51 years until his death in February.

Kuchar couple met and were engaged within just three months.

Together, they had two wonderful children: Son Matt Kuchar, born in 1978, and daughter Rebecca Kuchar.

Peter introduced son Matt to golf, forging a bond that would last a lifetime. Peter caddied for Matt when he won the 1997 U.S. Amateur.

He was a constant presence at Matt’s tournaments, offering continuous support.

Meg and Peter’s daughter, Rebecca Kuchar, is Huckaby’s English Golden Retrievers’ founder, director, and CEO.

Peter Kuchar passed away unexpectedly while he and Meg were on a trip to St. Bart’s to celebrate Meg’s 70th birthday

The couple was on holiday, which Peter had meticulously planned as a bucket-list adventure.

Meg shared her grief on social media, posting photos from their vacation with a heartfelt message,

“The sun has set on life with this man I have loved for so long and who has loved me so well. I am brokenhearted to share that in the midst of our grand adventure, God called him home on Feb 4, 2025.”

She further wrote,

“I am shocked and devastated but trust God has welcomed Peter into a Paradise that makes this one we were so enjoying pale in comparison and look forward to our reunion in Heaven when my time on earth is done RIP, my love”

In following Facebook posts, Meg pointed out her faith and found peace in messages from above. She shared a photo of a rainbow, writing,

Son Matt Kuchar also provided a statement saying his father “passed away unexpectedly,.”

“My Pop was a huge fan of sport and passed on his love of competition to me, He was a wonderful person — an incredible grandfather, a loving husband and best friend to my mother, and the best father I could have ever hoped for.”

“He is the person that introduced me to the game of golf, a tie that will always remain between us. Those memories, and so many more, will be with me and our family forever. He will be missed more than words can express. We appreciate the support and privacy while we grieve as a family.”

According to a statement from their daughter Rebecca, Peter and Meg were swimming together at St. Barths when Peter suffered a heart attack.

The rescue services attempted to revive him for an hour, but they were unsuccessful.

Margaret Wright was born on February 1, 1955, to Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Wright and Mr. Wright.

Meg is a religious woman who values family. She enjoys the outdoors, whether watching golf or basketball, hiking, or simply outside.

She also cherishes indoor moments with her family during holidays and enjoys the company of her dogs, which she often shares through her social media.

She is now registered as living at 121 Plantation Cir, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and with the Republican Party of Florida.

Losing a loved one is never easy, but Meg Kuchar’s ability to remain positive and strong for her family is admirable.

Peter Kuchar is survived by his wife, Meg, daughter, Rebecca, and son, Matt. 

Her faith, love for her family, and cherished memories of Peter will undoubtedly guide her through this difficult time.
