Ukrainian figure skater Oksana Baiul and her husband, Carlo J. Farina, come from different professional fields. The couple share a daughter named Sophia and have remained out of the limelight for several years.
Baiul is the first Olympic Champion from Ukraine, winning gold at the Winter Olympics in 1994.
Her first competitive medal came in the 1993 European Championships in Helsinki as she finished second to French skater Surya Bonaly.
Later that year, she won a gold medal at the 1993 World Championships in Prague.
In 1994, Baiul won the silver medal at the European Championship in Copenhagen, losing again to Bonaly.
After winning her Olympic gold medal in 1994, Baiul retired from the sport. She began her coaching career and started appearing in several documentaries.
Despite staying out of the limelight for years, Oksana recently made headlines, but not for a joyous reason.
On January 29, 2025, 67 people died near Ronald Reagan National Airport following the collision of a passenger plane and an Army helicopter.
According to a statement from the International Skating Union, the passenger plane had multiple figure skaters, their families, friends, and coaches.
Baiul shared several Instagram and Facebook videos mourning the loss of several talented figure skaters.
