Ricky Castillo, the PGA Tour’s emerging star, has won over golf fans worldwide with his incredible journey from a young dreamer to a professional champion.

His grandparents supported his passion for golf as his parents faced financial struggles.

While attending Valencia High School, Ricky won multiple golf events, including the Los Angeles City Junior and the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic.

He became the Los Angeles City Junior Championship and PING Heather Farr Classic at 17 and represented the USA in the Junior Ryder Cup.

Afterward, Ricky attended the University of Florida in 2019, where he earned the 2020 NCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award and the SEC Freshman of the Year.

He turned professional in 2023 and won the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open on the Korn Ferry Tour.

His childhood dream became a reality when he earned his PGA Tour card. As the tour’s second year, 2024, concluded, he placed 26th on the points list.

Ricky Castillo’s Parents Turned Hardship Into His Greatest Golf Strength

Ricky Castillo, the son of Mark and Kim Castillo, was born on August 28, 2001, in Yorba Linda, California. He captured the attention of fans with his impressive skills and unyielding determination.

Behind his success lies a story of resilience, sacrifice, and constant family support, from his parents and grandparents, who played a crucial role in shaping his journey.

Ricky grew up in a household where hard work and discipline were fundamental values.

His parents are educators, and they have financial constraints. As a middle-class family with economic constraints, they faced challenges supporting Ricky’s budding golf career.

Ricky often spent time with his grandparents, Orlina and Lydia Castillo, who helped nurture his passion for golf. They were immigrants from the Philippines and carried a legacy of resilience.

They had once worked on sugar cane plantations in Kaumakani, Kauai, enduring hardships to build a better life for their family.

Their relentless work ethic and sacrifices left a deep impression on Ricky, motivating him to pursue his dreams despite financial limitations.

With their encouragement, Ricky honed his skills on the golf course. His family’s emotional and financial support allowed him to compete in junior tournaments, paving the way for his future in professional golf.

The Castillo family was present to support him on his PGA TOUR rookie season debut in Hawaii.

Ricky wears a puka shell necklace when playing, in honor of his grandmother who was a huge supporter of his golf career. His paternal grandparents immigrated from the Philippines to Kauai. When Ricky was young, his family traveled to the island to visit the old sugar plantation where his grandparents lived and worked.

Ricky excelled in collegiate golf at the University of Florida and became one of the top amateur players in the world.
