Edwards played important roles in promoting both Blackpool and Norwich to the Premier League and also played for Barnsley before retiring due to injury in 2013.

After retiring as a player, Edwards completed his coaching badges with the Football Association of Wales and became a manager. He managed the Wolves’ academy and briefly led the first team. He then took charge of AFC Telford United and later the England under-16 team.

In May 2022, he became Watford’s manager but was dismissed four months later in September.

Later that year, Edwards joined Luton Town, leading the club to promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs.
