The Alabama native, Harper, began his career with the Saints and spent nine seasons with them. He was a second-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and earned a contract worth $3.5 million.

During his first four seasons at Saints, Harper proved himself as a useful player for the Saints. He was part of the Saints team that won Super Bowl 44 and was credited with 99 total tackles that season.

The deal ensured that Harper would earn $6 million as an average salary, and the contract also included a signing bonus of $7 million. But in 2013, the deal was restructured so the Saints could get some salary cap relief.

He was set to make $5.25 million in the 2013 season and was already guaranteed $2.6 million. The restructured contract also added one more year into his contract, keeping him with the side until 2015.

But the Saints let him go in the 2014 season. Harper was released alongside Will Smith and Jabari Greer as the Saints were projected to be well over the 2014 salary cap.

The Carolina Panthers picked up Harper from free agency. He signed a two-year deal worth $4.5 million with the Panthers. In 2016, he signed a one-year deal worth $985,000 with the Saints, and this was his last season in the NFL.

Fans can catch the former NFL player in the SECN’s signature weekly traveling show, and last year, Roman, alongside former Auburn offensive lineman Cole Cubelic, debuted a new show, Read & React.

Roman established the Harper’s Hope 4*1 Foundation with his mom early into his NFL career. The foundation focuses on helping underprivileged families and kids to reach their potential despite the circumstances.

The New Orleans Saints named Roman the 2016 Man of the Year, and they also nominated him for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

His foundation included programs, Reading with Roman to encourage literacy, Kleats for Kids to provide sporting equipment and funding for underserved sports programs.
